Over the years the song has been covered by Bryan Ferry, Jerry Garcia, and was a 1958 chart topping hit on both sides of the Atlantic for doo wop group, The Platters . With a deep dynamic range and rich, floating harmonies, this luxurious choral arrangement by Christopher Hussey for SATB chorus with Piano accompaniment, is a beautifully re-imagined new take on a timeless song. Composed in 1980 and revised in 2010 this is a setting of verses from Aquinas’s Pange lingua in modern English translation. The choral writing is appropriately hymn-like with one a cappella passage. The organ part comprises a flowing two-part canonic texture over a very simple and sparse pedal part accessible to experienced and 'reluctant' organists alike. A collection of three choral songs setting the words of three First World War poets commissioned in 2014 by the choir Sospiri to mark the centenary of the start of the war. The songs are charged with emotion with the music reflecting words masterfully. Tonally centred but with chromatic inflexions and with a variety of textures the set would be a very rewarding addition to intermediate and advanced choirs’ remembrance repertoire.

This anthem was composed for the service of thanksgiving for a Civil Partnership in June 2011. In looking for a suitable text the composer turned to Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806–61) one of whose sonnets he had used for another wedding anthem (Love is beautiful indeed) a few years earlier. As the title suggests this highly expressive text puts into words the intense feeling of love and the mostly homophonic music reflects that through luscious harmonies and beautifully shaped phrases. Suitable for intermediate choirs this setting of a popular wedding text is a joy for both performers and audience.
