Prayers for Peace is a collection of three beautiful prayer settings by Alexander L'Estrange: God be in my head  Lighten our Darkness and The Lord's Prayer. Ideal as introits anthems or in a concert programme the pieces are testament to L'Estrange's ability to write music which is simple and accessible yet at the same time full of expression and exquisite harmonies. The settings are for unaccompanied SATB but they have an optional piano/organ part to provide support if required.   Prayers for Peace is part of Faber Music's exciting ChoralSignature Series which introduces a wealth of new or recently written choral music to choirs in search of fresh repertoire. The series draws in a rich diversity of living composers offering a thrilling array of varied styles.

Paul Mealor’s Celtic Prayers was commissioned by the BBC for the BBC National Orchestraof Wales to celebrate St David’s Day 1st March 2014. The premiere took place on that date at St. David’s Hall Cardiff at a gala concert with the participation of the BBC National Chorus of Wales as well as massed youth choirs conducted by Grant Llewellyn.

Walter Piston is better known for his symphonic and larger scale orchestral compositions mostly of a secular nature. In fact this is his only religious composition. It was premiered it at Brandeis University on May 9 1959. The joyful and sprightly musical content of the first part is expressed with shifting accents modal chanting and exquisite orchestration. The prayer that follows is substantially darker and more troubled though Piston’s skill is to present glimpses of light and relief. This SATB version includes a rehearsal Piano reduction by the composer.

Music for Royal Occasions is an exciting volume of pieces written for coronations and other royal celebrations over the past five centuries. This is perhaps the most recognized and certainly the most memorized passage in all of the scriptures. Jesus teaches his disciples about the nature of prayer and shows his followers the importance of giving thanks and glory toGod. Benjamin Harlan's setting for SATB choir and optional cello is a welcome addition to the other celebrated versions of this beloved scripture. Memorable.

Sometimes a familiar story can be told so well it demands to stand on its own. Nathaniel Fryml's artistry is the extraordinary type that takes simplicity and makes it elegant even astonishing. O Little Town of Bethlehem is there as are quotes from 17 other beloved carols but the music is actually new and beautiful. The choral writing is exquisite and the piano part evocative. The violin which is optional is written for a well-trained player but worth every note. A worthy piece for community and college choirs medium difficulty.

Open My Eyes-Revealing itself with warmth and sincerity this a cappella pearl glistens with sonic luster. Organic part-writing moves slowly with linear steps that change the harmony with watercolor grace. The text is ancient but still relevant today as a humble prayer for illumination. The final Amen section is masterful! For choirs of distinction!

This work was commissioned by St Dunstan's College South-East London for the celebration of its centenary in 1988. It is an anthem and uses a setting of Psalm 100. The work has three main sections (fast-slow-fast) and is essentially jubilant in nature. After a brief instrumental introduction the choir enters using as its text the first two verses of the Psalm. This reaches a climax on the word singing after which the music subsides into the serene key of C major for female voices only to sing a reflective tune on the words Know ye surrounded by various counter melodies on solo horn and trumpet. Male voices then take over this tune (inverted) and the final comment isleft to unaccompanied choir leaving sopranos on a held low D. At this point the last section begins. The mood is set by Organ and Percussion the style takes off its hat to minimalism with multi-layered textures underpinning the choral unison on the word Enter. Eventually the tonality heads towards G major and a reprise of the opening music with a coda full of energetic exuberance.

A Cantata for Christmas-A Midnight Clear is a joyful collection of carols that beautifully and elegantly portray the Christmas story. Stylistic variety abounds and the optional Chamber Orchestration will provide additional layers of texture and color to the work. Selections can be presented individually or as part of a full-length cantata making this book an excellent choice for Lessons and Carols services or for concert presentations. Replete with two-part textures the song is easily learned creating a pleasing clarity. The contrasting middle section features a quote from the text of the Doxology to the celebrated Tallis Canon theme. An optional flute part adds a splendid spirit to the overall impact of this brief and effective choral.

This anthem was written as a testament of hope following the destructive natural disasters and senseless violence of recent times. Pleasing melodic contours offer a comforting spirit to a text filled with prayers for peace and grace. A Setting of America the Beautiful-This setting of 'America The Beautiful' was first performed on March 11 1967 in the Air Force Academy Chapel near Colorado Springs only a few miles from where in 1983 Katherine Lee Bates wrote the first lines of her now famous poem certainly the most beautiful and moving of all hymns to America. The occasion was a concert given by the choral and brass groups of the University of Colorado for the Music Educators National Conference Southwest Division.The setting is concieved as a unified dramatic whole using melodic motives from the Samuel A. Ward tune in the introduction and connecting sections. Each of the four stanzas is treated differently their powerful emotion and meaning culminating in the final affirmation and prayer of the last stanza which is sung in unison with descant and full accompaniment.The work may be performed with an Organ (or Piano accompaniment or with a group of instruments consisting of 3 Trumpets in Bb 4 Horns in F 3 Trombones Euphonium and Tuba.Instrumental parts available from the publisher.
