As one of the great Baroque composers, Antonio Vivaldi's (1678-1741) compositions remain hugely popular to this day. His motets, including Motetti a Canto Solo con Stromenti continue to be popular, large-scale performance works. Vivaldi is best remembered for his Four Seasons and for his Violin concertos. However, his motets number to over 60. The second volume of Motetti a Canto Solo con Stromenti contains the last three movements of the work. For allaspiring solo vocalists of the Baroque genre, Vivaldi's Motetti a Canto Solo con Stromenti cannot be missed.

The Credo belongs to that large group of church works which Vivaldi composed in Venice between 1713 and 1717 for the Ospedale della Pieta, then his primary place of employment. The composition, conceived solely for choir and strings, is characterized by a two-layered formal design: a continuous, basic motivic idea, i.e., a constant rhythmic impulse with rapid tone repetition builds an instrumental layer, while on the other hand the writing for choir renders the text in a blocklike structure in chordal declamation. This structure will only be abandoned briefly in the concluding section of work, where the text Et vitam venturi saeculi is embedded in a concise fugue. Score available separately - see item CA.4000400.

Dixit Dominus (Ps 109), a psalm setting for double choir, is one of Vivaldi's most significant sacred works. In it, he takes up the old Venetian polychoral tradition, combining its compositional techniques with those of the instrumental concerto, the cantata and the opera. The broadly conceived cycle of movements, consisting of eight psalm verses and the doxology, is characterized by an expansive arch of tonalities connecting the two framing outer movements in D major (these are also thematically related): Dixit Dominus and Gloria Patri. The contrasting and varied inner movements are perfect examples of Vivaldi's skill in vividly portraying linguistic figures in music. Score and part available separately - see item CA.4000700.
