The Three American Madrigals includes settings of Frost, Whitman and Teasdale. Frostâ??s poem Bond and Free is another slow lyrical setting with contrasting tonalities accentuating the two halves of the poem. Likewise, the setting of Whitmanâ??s Tears explores various diatonic modes while also employing constantly changing meters, thus yielding a feeling of fluidity. A setting of Sara Teasdaleâ??s I Love You closes the cycle. The four symmetrical stanzas of the poem are exaggerated with chromaticâ??almost barbershop-styleâ??harmonies in close spacing.SATB Chorus, a cappella Duration: 15 ' Composed: 2014 Published by: Distributed Composer Minimum order quantity: 8 copies. These four splendid anthems were composed for the coronation of George II in October 1727 and have since retained a position at the heart of the English choral tradition. The popular anthem Zadok the Priest has been performed at all subsequent coronations, and Handel's other contributions to the royal occasion - Let thy hand be strengthened, The King shall rejoice, and My heart is inditing - have the same majestic grandeur, with affecting contrasts between different sections of the sacred texts. The editor, Clifford Bartlett, has corrected various inconsistencies in Handel's score, and complete details of sources and editorial method, additional performance notes, and a critical commentary are included.

These unique and creative settings of the traditional evening canticles were written for the Voluntary Choir of Manchester Cathedral. The Magnificat is joyful, with a light, skipping accompaniment. The Nunc Dimittis is introspective and contrasts with the Magnificat. It makes use of the octatonic mode to create an atmosphere of slightly aching serenity. 24 pages Published by: Zimbel Press.

This creative setting of the familiar African-American spiritual Deep River places a traditional, major melody within a harmonically minor context. This approach allows two contrasting ideas to be juxtaposed: the oppressiveness of slavery (depicted by the ponderous piano accompaniment) and the hope of deliverance (inherent in the melody itself). The result of this conflict directs our thoughts to a personal longing for eternal peace. 8 pages Published by: Zimbel Press Minimum order quantity: 8 copies. As one of the three canticles from the New Testament, the Magnificat - the Canticle of Mary - has at all times held a prominent position in church music. Telemann's setting of Luther's German translation of the text bears eloquent witness both to the composer's rich imagination and to his ability to mold a variety of musical shapes into a coherent formal Baroque architecture. Four solo movements with colorfully contrasting instrumentation are juxtaposed with four emphatically homogeneous choral movements; all of the latter are in 6/8 meter and in motet setting with instruments doubling colla parte. Particularly the choral movements are characterized by lively text portrayal and a wealth of at times dramatic imagery. A work of exceptional magnetism for both listeners and choir singers! Score and part available separately - see item CA.3912200.
