Huron Carol ('Twas the Moon of Wintertime) is perhaps the oldest Canadian song. It was written ca. 1642 by Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuitmissionary at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. The original words were in Huron language, but Whittall uses the English translation from 1926. The song's melody is based on a traditional French folk song “Une Jeune Pucelleâ€. Whittall's arrangement is done for Audite choir in 2013. It is a skillful arrangement, bringing out the best qualities of the original melody. Huron Carol ('Twas the Moon of Wintertime) on mahdollisesti vanhin kanadalainen laulu.

In honor of the 200th anniversary of St. Rose Philippine Duschene’s arrival in New Orleans, Michael Joncas was commissioned to write a new mass setting by the Religious of the Sacred Heart. This edition is scored for SATB voices and features instrumental parts for complete symphony orchestra. Parts may be used according to the players available in your circumstance. The mass includes optional phrases in French and Potawatomi honoring the American saint’s heritage and ministry. The mass may be sung in unison, reserving the choral and instrumental parts for holy days. While some contemporary musical settings of the “Glory to God†seem burdensome and even awkward, Joncas’s melody is absolutely delightful. The singable through-composed Gloria boasts a magnificent and manageable modulation that contributes to the triumphant nature of the piece. A new Christmas showstopper! This arrangement is full of joy and excitement. This is wonderful introduction to eight-part singing for a choir, with its repetitive lines and memorable rhythms, but is no less enjoyable for advanced groups to sing. The song pulses with a celebratory rhythm, allowing the stunning original melody to dance around within the surrounding texture. This is also a great piece to give to a group that doesn't sing much French-- the text is quite repetitive.

Orlando composer Bob Schaefer always brings out the best in choirs with his musically compelling liturgical works. The images he portrays in each unique composition serve to support the particular liturgical day or ritual action. In this eucharistic anthem he makes use of staggered vocal entrances, creating a wash of sound as the melody first emerges from the lower voices.
