Seiber arranged The Handsome Butcher from a folksong that was collected by Bartok. The body of the song concerns the striking attributes of the butcher in fanfare-like tonic-dominant structures but there is a staccato prestosting the tail.The Hungarian composer and teacher Matyas Seiber who spent most of his life in Britain had a remarkably broad musical understanding. In his oeuvre can be discerned influences of Schoenberg Bartok jazz and clearly in The Handsome Butcher folksong both British and Continental.

The Months is a Unison anthem with Piano accompaniment. It takes its lyrics from an old farm labourers' song (Roud 1954) which describes each of the months of the year in turn. This setting celebrates themonths of May and June and is perfect for any Spring festival.Eric Thiman (1900-1975) was a British composer and organist. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music and at the University of London and was organistat the City Temple in London for many years.
