Klezmer is the Yiddish word for musician, and is commonly used to refer to Jewish traditional music. Originating from Eastern Europe, Klezmer music played an important part during Jewish festivals and celebrations, and clearly reveals musical influences from the Balkan and Slavic regions. The title Metamorphosis is on the one hand a metaphor for the development of the body and soul into a mature personality, and on the other hand it describes a musical transformation - a journey through musical styles and genres. In writing these arrangements for clarinet quartet, Frank Reinshagen has created little masterpieces, which broaden the rhythmical and harmonic context of the original tunes in an interesting manner without detracting from their archaic and melancholic character. These original tunes are---in a direct or wider sense---of Celtic origin. In other words, they have been borrowed from the Irish, Scottish, and Gaelic musical tradition. These through-composed arrangements are rather easy to perform from the rhythmical and technical point of view. Yet, they are quite demanding in respect of the key they are written in, their intonation, and especially, their interpretation. Their different instrumentations are fully compatible with each other and, due to their overall structure, they are also suitable to be played with multi-scored parts. Annotation on Aignish on the Machair: The arrangement of Aignish on the Machair, Folksong from The Hebrides, illustrates, above all, the melancholic character inherent in the harmonies of the original tune. A short rubato passage is followed by several variations over the flowing melody in 3/4-time. The short triplet passages embedded in these variations are quite demanding from the technical point of view; considering the key they are written in, however, these passages are not too difficult to play.

‘Bella Ciao’ originated as an Italian folk song, stemming all the way from the late 19th century. Many versions have since appeared over the years, but the song now has a new lease of life owing to a new dance adaption as well as its feature as the theme for the Netflix series ‘La Casa de Papel’, which has inspired Bert van Haagen to create this dynamic arrangement for quartet. ‘Bella Ciao’ is van oorsprong een aansprekend Italiaans volksliedje uit het einde van de 19e eeuw waar in de loop der tijd vele versies van zijn gemaakt. Nu heeft het nieuw leven ingeblazen gekregen in een dancevariant én als themasong bij de Netflixserie La Casa de Papel. Naar aanleiding daarvan creëerde Bert van Haagen dit levendige arrangement voor blazerskwartet. Bella Ciao ist ursprünglich ein italienisches Volkslied aus dem späten 19. Jahrhundert. Im Laufe der Jahre sind zahlreiche Versionen erschienen, aber das Lied ist jetzt durch eine neue Tanzadaption und die Verwendung als Thema für die Netflix-Serie La casa de papel“ (Haus des Geldes“) wieder aufgelebt. Das hat Bert van Haagen dazu inspiriert, dieses neue dynamische Arrangement für Quartett zu schreiben. l’origine, « Bella Ciao » est une chanson populaire italienne qui remonte au XIXe siècle. Patrick Hiketick is a Belgian pianist and composer. As a composer he worked for nearly all theatre companies in Flanders and he wrote over a 100 different theatre plays, amongst which the complete oeuvre of Molière and Shakespeare. He was also the musical director for all Brecht plays for KNS theatre in Antwerp, where he worked as the home composer for 10 years. He than became the musical coordinator for the Royal Ballet of Flanders and he wrote several ballet compositions for symphony orchestra. He has his own close-harmony and jazz trio, and he works freelance as a composer and as artistic director in several musical productions. He composed many clarinet works for the Flanders Clarinet Quartet, and was honoured in Japan with concerts completely dedicated to his works.
