‘Bella Ciao’ originated as an Italian folk song, stemming all the way from the late 19th century. Many versions have since appeared over the years, but the song now has a new lease of life owing to a new dance adaption as well as its feature as the theme for the Netflix series ‘La Casa de Papel’, which has inspired Bert van Haagen to create this dynamic arrangement for quartet.

Nu heeft het nieuw leven ingeblazen gekregen in een dancevariant én als themasong bij de Netflixserie La Casa de Papel. Naar aanleiding daarvan creëerde Bert van Haagen dit levendige arrangement voor blazerskwartet.

Bella Ciao ist ursprünglich ein italienisches Volkslied aus dem späten 19. Jahrhundert. Im Laufe der Jahre sind zahlreiche Versionen erschienen, aber das Lied ist jetzt durch eine neue Tanzadaption und die Verwendung als Thema für die Netflix-Serie La casa de papel“ (Haus des Geldes“) wieder aufgelebt. Das hat Bert van Haagen dazu inspiriert, dieses neue dynamische Arrangement für Quartett zu schreiben.

While he was in the middle of writing a large-scale musical production, Rik Elings sought diversion in composing these pieces for clarinet quartet. During a period of merciless deadlines, working on PLAYTIME 4 CLARINETS turned out to be an excellentway of release. Out of the blue, he created three playful little works in a mostly classical early Romantic idiom, with a touch of jazz. The three short pieces are quite catchy and they guarantee some pleasant playtime for four clarinets.

â??French composer and conductor, Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) published Three Divertissements for Clarinet Quartet in 1964. As with his other wind compositions, Three Divertissements was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille, but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured into musical studies by his parents, Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor, and during the summer, he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However, in 1921, he began his studies at the Paris Conservatoire and went on to become a high profile composer and conductor. Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes, often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother into his compositions. The Three Divertissements are named; 1) Proceedings, 2) Masquerade, and 3) Rounds. This Tomasi piece is suitable to an advanced Clarinet Quartet, providing an exciting alternative addition to the ensemble repertoire.â?.
