La Bamba is actually an old folk song from South America. This happy dance tune first achieved worldwide success through the rock ’n’ roll singer Ritchie Valens, however, who in 1958 gave the song his own incomparable treatment. And it’s this version that the experienced arranger Naohiro Iwai took as the basis fort his wind orchestra version. La Bamba is eigenlijk een oud volksliedje uit Zuid-Amerika. Wereldwijde bekendheid verkreeg het vrolijke danslied door de Rock-‘n’-Roll zanger Richie Valens die het in 1958 op geheel eigen wijze vertolkte. Deze versie nam arrangeur Naohiro Iwai als basis voor zijn versie voor blaasorkest. La Bamba ist eigentlich ein altes Volkslied aus Südamerika. Weltweite Bekanntheit erlangte das fröhliche Tanzlied jedoch durch den Rock-‘n’-Roll-Sänger Ritchie Valens, der 1958 dem Lied seine eigene Note verlieh. Jubilate’s main theme comes from the Gregorian chant on the Psalm Jubliate Deo omnis terra. The work itself was inspired by the sacredhistory of the Waldkirch (a forest village) community, located on the Swiss/German boarder. In 1979 Badings was commissioned to compose a work in several parts for symphonic band which could also be performed by amateur players. This commission resulted in 'Golden Age', a composition in which he used a lot of material borrowed from the Dutch 17th century folklore. It is a four-part suite. The first part evokes the pompous dignity of The Hague, the 'distinguished royal village' as it was so deliciously described by the poet Constantijn Huygens. The second part is a gaillarde with a double (repetition with ornaments). The third part is a canonic march based on a Frisian theme. The final part is a quick gigue (jig) containing a fugue in which all previous themes return in a virtuoso way.

Iedereen, kind of ouder, kent (nog) wel het gevoel van het bijwonen van een poppenkast voorstelling. Of de hoofdpersonen nu Kaspar en Grete (Duitsland) of Pulcinella (Italië) heten, Petrushka (Rusland) of Jan Klaassen en Katrijn (Nederland), er doen zich altijd humoristische, spannende en hilarische taferelen voor. De oerpersonage is Pulcinella, waarin het woord 'pulcino' (kuikentje) te herkennen is. Hij heeft dan ook een snavelvormige neus, een hanige tred en een kwakende stem. In Engeland heten de hoofdpersonen Punch and Judy. Punch stapt onbekommerd door het leven maar vindt samen met zijn Judy spanning en verdriet op zijn pad. De kwakende stem van Punch isduidelijk te horen door het gebruik van de 'kazoo'. Hun leven kent verrassende wendingen. Dat is te horen in een 'slapstick'-achtig gedeelte aan het slot, van deze voor alle leeftijden geschikte voorstelling.
