One of Frederic Chopin's best known works, Prelude, Op. 28, No. 4, presents emotion-packed performance opportunities for bands at all levels. This new Ed Huckeby transcription for band provides an almost literal translation of Chopin's original work with tremendous musical challenges in both the interpretive and dynamic realms, providing the ensemble an opportunity to explore musical possibilities which might be less attainable in a more technical piece. The recognizable melodic and harmonic structures will make this piece a real hit with concert audiences and provides an opportunity to teach the musical styles of the greatest 19th century composer of piano music. Great music!

An epic programmatic work that captures the fight between good and evil. The work opens with a heroic fanfare that commands attention. From here the music subsides into a beautifully lyric chorale section. Our musical story begins to unfold as the demons theme is introduced. The theme is developed and expanded, creating a feeling of unresolved conflict, ultimately leading to a thunderous conclusion. From here, the heroic theme returns, stronger and more developed this time as our battle between good and evil comes to its conclusion, but not before a brief final battle creating a dramatic end to the piece that will have your audiences on their feet. Destined to be a classic for concert and festival use, cross cueing is used to insure success in most performance settings. Don’t miss this exceptional addition to the concert band repertoire.

Ye Olde English Hunt comes to life through this colorful and humorous musical portrait. The opening pastoral scene is augmented with bird whistles, duck calls, and whatever wildlife your percussion section can conjure up. A series of trumpet calls, followed by a chorus of A Hunting We Will Go leads us into the frenzy of the hunt, complete with barking dogs and the galloping of horse hooves. Great fun for the band and especially your audience, this is a lighter, tongue in cheek selection for all.

In Greek mythology, Zeus gave Pandora a box, but warned her never to open it. But the urge to open it overcame her. All of life’s miseries came out of the box, let free into the world. The final thing remaining in the box was hope, and a new beginning. This powerful and poignant work depicts Pandora’s myth. A bold and forceful opening statement gives way to a beautiful and haunting melody. Lush and mournfully dissonant harmonies gradually build to a climax of incredible emotion and power. As the music ends, we are reminded of a new hope and a new beginning, creating a sensitive and memorable moment. A meaningful and significant addition to the concert band repertoire; destined to be a classic.

This Victor Lopez work evokes images of excitement, bravery and sorrow as Erebus and Terror: The Lost Ships retells the story of the Sir John Franklin expedition in search of the Northwest Passage. Beginning with anticipation as the explorers depart their homeland, the rousing melodic theme is written for clarinet, horn and alto saxophone. The excitement of the journey turns melancholic for a few moments, as the gravity of their journey sinks in, but their courage is again renewed as the trumpets tell the story. A haunting flute and oboe duet foreshadows the inevitable crash portrayed with strong chromatic dissonances, into the ice and the loss of both ships and their crews. The journey has ended for these men, but their story lives on and Sir John Franklin is remembered as a hero due to his valuable contributions to the development of Canada's north. Highly recommended!
