Over the past three decades Hans Zimmer has created some of the most dynamic and memorable movie themes to hit the silver screen. With styles ranging from excitement and intensity to delicate and whimsical, here's an effective medley for the concert stage featuring familiar melodies from Driving Miss Daisy, Gladiator, Madagascar, Crimson Tide, The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Glitter and glamour, good-looking people, a lot of Bling Bling and fast cars images like these will cross our minds when we think of the movie world. However, reality proves to be different : as a rule, a tremendous amount of work will have been done on the set before a film is ready to be shown on the big screen. A visit to an actual movie set inspired John Emerson Blackstone to write a composition bearing the same name. He had both seen a number of characteristic attributes and heard the typical phrases used in film making, and he incorporated them into ‘On the Movie Set’ . In the first part, ‘The Clapboard’, a ‘director’s assistant’ is supposed to shout “Quieton the set’” and “Action!”, as is done before a real scene is shot. Subsequently, in order to create the right atmosphere, the clacking of a ‘Clapboard’ should be heard. During a romantic scene we should be transported to another world by means of sweet sounds in the background, so romantic music is of course heard in the next part, ‘Love Scene’. At the end of a long working day ‘It’s a wrap’ is called on the set to inform everyone that the filming on that day is completed. Now there is only one more thing left to dream of : an Oscar..... Perf. Note: The use of the right props will add to the performance and appreciation of ‘On the Movie Set’. A red carpet and a glamorous reception should give your audience the feeling they are attending a real ‘opening night’! Perf. Note: Het gebruik van de juiste rekwisieten zalde uitvoering en waardering van ‘On the Movieset’ ten goede komen.

Notes The Teton Range is part of the Rocky Mountain chain just east of the Idaho border and south of Yellowstone National Park. The name of this majestic range has its roots in the Shoshone teewinet, meaning many pinnacles. Performance Suggestions: The opening measures of The Grand Tetons should be played broadly and majestically. At m. 14, the tempo is indicated at q = 132 and is introduced by a light snare drum figure. The low brass figures at m.18 are to be played softly and broadly in contrast to the lighter and slightly louder high woodwinds. This entire section builds to a climax at m.44. Note the dynamic contrasts in the mixed meter section after m. 53. at 67, the trombone and horn figures should be evident but not overbearing against the lightly played trumpet solo. The 2 measure mixed meter (6/8) (3/4) theme introduced at m.88 should be performed by exaggerating the dotted 8th-16th rhythm, thereby creating a slight swing and dance-like feeling. At m.109, the 8th notes become even and the theme more strident and energetic, with the ritard returning Tetons to the opening theme at m.129.Notes The Teton Range is part of the Rocky Mountain chain just east of the Idaho border and south of Yellowstone National Park. This piece attempts to portray atmospheric pictures through music. The opening section evokes the somewhat misty and hazy early morning atmosphere surrounding the ancient monument. When the band reaches its first dynamic climax it is as if the massive boulders are audible, even touchable through the use of minor 3rd chords. The main theme - constructed on the notes CAFBG symbolises the arrangement of the central boulders in the shape of a horseshoe, which forms the focal point of this huge collection of stones. Towards the end of the work you will experience a fantastic effect when five soloists play a five part hymn whilst other members of the band create a specialatmosphere by imitating a choir of monks and druids. A fantastic major new concert work for advanced bands. Stone Mountain Overture was beautifully written to ensure success with younger ensembles. The composition is wonderfully developed with captivating rhythmic themes and dynamics. This flexible arrangement allows ensembles to perform the work with as few as ten musicians providing accessibility and flexibility for numerous instrumentation needs, while still allowing a full ensemble sound. *The posted recording is based on the full band scoring but aligns with the suggested preferences for either woodwinds/strings or brass suggested in the score.

The White Stone was commissioned by the band of the catholic parish of Dossenheim on the occasion of the 1250th anniversary of the town of Dossenheim near Heidelberg, Germany. The work is named after a high peak (White Stone) in the east of the town. Throughout the piece the composer uses the tune ‘How lovely you are, my Dossenheim’ in different forms and shapes, and musically he depicts the history and landscapes of this idyllic town. A challenging and versatile concert work with lots of beautiful melodies as well as rhythmical and energetic sequences.
