In one form or another Hurricane Katrina affected all our lives. In the fall of 2005 the Mississippi Bandmasters Association commissioned Richard Saucedo to write this work for wind band. 2002 marks the 100th birthday of one of America's top Broadway composers. Richard Rodgers' contributions to the musical theatre of his day were extraordinary and his influence continues even today. This medley for choir band and optional strings salutes the achievements of this Broadway legend.

Commissioned for the 2016 South Carolina All-State High School Band Concerto No. 1 is a spectacular showcase for the entire ensemble rather than just a single soloist. Throughout this dynamic work the entire ensemble is featured although there are also concerto type moments for solo instruments as well as chamber groups. MusicWorks - Grade 3 Commissioned for the All Iowa Middle School Honor Band here is an exuberant work that features dynamic ensemble passages layering effects and extensive percussion scoring. Richard's masterful development of repetitive rhythmic motives makes this sound more difficult than it really is. A contrasting middle section uses brief solos for alto sax and flute over a rich harmonic texture. A powerful statement for band. (5:10)

On to the Next Frontier. Richard's exciting overture captures feelings of adventure and daring as we look towards a new frontier and flourishing future. The percussion section is featured at the start, as layers of patterns build up to a vibrant full band statement of the main theme. The lyric middle section features short solos for clarinet and trumpet accompanied by lush background harmonies from the ensemble. The fast pace returns introduced by a playful baritone sax solo followed by a full band recap of the opening theme and a rousing finish.
