Plenty of Horn was commissioned by the Seattle Symphony as part of its ?Echoes? project featuring classical works transformed and reinterpreted by contemporary composers. A long standing favorite in the band repertoire Verdi's famous opus best known as the “Manzoni Requiem” is now available in this new version designed for playability by most high school groups. Jay Bocook hasretained the essence of the original by carefully placing the challenging technical material in the skilled sections of the band (flute 1st clar. alto sax). From the hard driving signature opening with the solo bass drum tothe triumphant trumpet calls of the finale this is classic literature your band should experience.

Commissioned for the University of Akron Symphonic Band this dynamic work celebrates 100 years of music composed for the Olympic Games. Based on three primary themes the first is a brilliant fanfare that serves as an introduction as well as a unifying link throughout. Second is the 1896 Olympic Hymn (music by Spyros Samaras) set in a beautiful lyric style which builds to a magnificent climax juxtaposed with the opening fanfare. The final section presents a new version of Mr. Curnow's own Olympic Fanfare and Theme for the Olympic Flag which was commissioned for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and performed again in 2000. Commissioned by Ed Nagel and the Fairborn High School Band in celebration of the Centennial of the Wright Brothers' first powered flight.Wings That Work was written in celebration of the dedicated inventivespirit of Orville and Wilbur Wright. While 2003 marked the 100th anniversary of their first successful powered flight this piece is not a literal portrait of that single moment but rather evokes the joy and triumph in successmade possible by their years of persistent effort and dedicated belief in flight. Wings That Work celebrates the spirit of scientific inquiry and invention and the sustained effort required to realize suchaspirations.The music itself is a medium-tempo stately fanfare in (mostly) 6/8 time.
