Romanian Dances (Danses roumaines) est une ?uvre de commande pour l?Orchestre d?Harmonie de la ville de Balzers au Liechtenstein.La Roumanie s?appuie sur une extraordinaire richesse des traditions musicales et culturelles. Si la musique du Nord est familière à l?oreille des Occidentaux elle devient de plus en plus vive et exhubérante dans les régions du Sud. La réalisation de cette ?uvre a donné lieu à un intense travail de recherche. À l?issue de cette phase préparatoire Thomas Doss a effectué un choix consciencieux parmi plus de mille chants collectés aux quatre coins de la Roumanie. Cette première étape très enrichissante a contribué à renforcerles liens tissés de longue date entre le compositeur et le peuple roumain.Les techniques d?interprétation nécessitent volontiers l?utilisation du vibrato d?ornements de glissandi et d?altérations au quart de ton. Ces éléments ne sont cependant pas notés sur les partitions mais sont laissés à l?appréciation de chaque intervenant soliste selon sa sensibilité.Certains passages doivent sortir de l?espace sonore strictement classique pour rechercher l?authentique vivacité et le caractère libre d?un orchestre de mariage roumain. Cette liberté d?interprétation ne concerne pas les passages tutti. Seuls les passages solos expressifs autorisent l?imitation de sons d?instruments naturels tels que la flûte de pan la flûte de berger et le taragot (ou tárogató).Les six mouvements constitués de différents chants traditionnels parfois recueillis par fragments et que le compositeur a arrangés selon ses désirs. Pour rendre ces danses accessibles à la plupart des Orchestres à Vent quatre éditions on été réalisées : une édition complète ainsi que trois éditions/entités indépendantes :Ouverture des Danses roumaines1) Meleaguri mistice (?Paysages mystérieux?). In 1946, George Walker was still doing graduate work at the Curtis institute when he composed Lyric for Strings, which would prove over the coming decades to become one of the most performed and enduring string orchestra works of the 20th Century. This first-ever edition for symphonic wind band was arranged by Dr. Luci Disano and premiered by The President's Own United States Marine Band on August 24, 2022. George Walker (June 27, 1922 - August 23, 2018) began his groundbreaking career as a young piano virtuoso and was admitted to Oberlin College on a scholarship following his first public recital at the age of 14. Graduating with the highest honors in his Conservatory class, he was admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music, becoming the first black graduate of this renowned music school. His works demonstrate a wide range of artistic excellence in genres ranging from instrumental and vocal solos and chamber music to compositions for orchestra and other large ensembles. Who did it? is a composition for youth bands with limited instrumentation. While composing it Jacob de Haan was inspired by a familiar situation: a child caught doing something mischievous such as taking another child’s toy and trying to get away with it. The other children however notice this. The fast tempo of this work reflects the chase that follows - this will be fun for all the band members.

In ‘Land of Legends’ German composer Andreas Ludwig (what’s in a name) Schulte takes you along to the fictional world of legends myths and fairy tales. The introduction to the first part (The Castle) describes the majestic contours of the scene of action. Its instrumentation (horns) immediately makes you imagine being in Medieval spheres. The addition of trenchant copper instruments even gives the part a heroic tinge. After entering through the gate a lot of hustle and bustle appears to be going on in the courtyard. Pages squires and soldiers are busy attending to their arms. Beer is being brewed flax is being spun cattle are being tended and some craftsmen fromneighbouring villages are busily at work. In the upper chamber of the round tower lives an old man (The Old Wizard). He hardly ever comes out and nobody knows exactly what he is doing. It is said that he is engaged in wizardry and magic. It is all very mysterious. There are also festivities some of them sober others exuberant. The wedding in the third part is celebrated in a grand manner. With a flourish of trumpets the bride makes her entrance at the hand of her father. Afterwards at the party there is dancing to the music played by minstrels and of course a plentiful banquet follows.

Many people when asked the question 'Do you have any hobbies?' will answer 'Shopping' (even though the female part of the population may be more interested in this than the male one). Of course it is great fun to walk about in a Shopping Mall browsing in various small shops looking for things you have always wanted to possess. This was what William Vean was doing one day when he came across the idea to write a composition in which several shops could try to sell their wares (and this idea didn't cost him a penny). First the audience are taken to a 'Jeans store' then a 'Phone shop' is visited after which a visit is made to a 'Perfumery'. Thefourth part depicts a profession which is practised in several premises namely that of shoplifter. In the fifth part there is room for a bite to eat at a Chinese restaurant and finally after a visit to the hairdresser's it's time to go home.
