Marching Blues was written in the blues and swing-jazz style of the great big bands. It is an ideal show march that can be used for encores, popular performances, family concerts and much more. As the name suggests, the series First Class contains compositions for the first group lessons which, despite their easy grade, are first class pieces! First Class offers numerous possibilities for ensemble playing. Specialattention is given to the range of each part, so that as many different instruments as possible can play the pieces together. This Sugar blues dates from the thirties and is a classic in the jazz scene.
A wonderful solo in this case, a saxophone, but also for other instruments such as clarinet, trumpet or trombone (there are different transpositions of the solo part included).

Waan u in een rokerig bruin café met alle geneugten van dien. Een heerlijk jazzy gespeelde solo brengt u in de juiste stemming. Deze oerblues stamt uit de dertiger jaren en is een klassieker in de jazzscene. First recorded by the famous Original Dixieland Jazz Band in 1918, Bluin’ The Blues is revived in a fresh arrangement that is perfect for mid-level bands. This suite with a four-part instrumentation is comprised of three cheerful, imaginative movements: firstly Yellow Duck Shuffle, a bluesy, swinging section; next comes Purple Panda Polka, a lively, modern polka in which a funny dancing pair of pandas take centre stage; and finally the third movement entitled Pink Donkey Boogie is a gentle boogie-woogie. The musical motifs are played in all four parts giving every instrumentalist a chance to take the lead.

Deze vierstemmige suite bestaat uit drie vrolijke delen die stuk voor stuk tot de verbeelding spreken. De Yellow Duck Shuffle is een swingend, bluesachtig deel waarin het ritmische gekwaak van een jong eendje te horen is. De Purple Panda Polka is een snelle, moderne polka waarin een grappige paarse pandabeer al dansend de hoofdrol speelt. Het derde deel, Pink Donkey Boogie, is een rustige boogiewoogie met als terugkerend motief het herkenbare ‘ia’ van een swingende ezel. In de gehele suite lopen de melodische thema’s door alle vier de stemmen heen, zodat elke partij op haar beurt de boventoon voert.

Diese vierstimmige Suite besteht aus drei fröhlichen, fantasieanregenden Sätzen: Auf den Yellow Duck Shuffle, einen swingender, bluesartigen Satz, folgt die Purple Panda Polka, eine flotte, moderne Polka, in der ein drolliges, tanzendes Panda-Pärchen die Hauptrolle spielt. Der dritte Satz mit dem Titel Pink Donkey Boogie ist ein ruhiger Boogie Woogie. Die musikalischen Themen wechseln durch alle vier Stimmen durch, sodass jede Stimme einmal führen darf.

Cette suite en quatre parties se compose de trois phrases pétillantes de fantaisie. Yellow Duck Shuffle propose un motif oscillant entre le blues et le swing. Purple Panda Polka offre une moderne polka qui permettra un drôle de couple de pandas d’évoluer sur la piste de danse. Enfin, Pink Donkey Boogie, troisième et dernier mouvement, ramène le calme au coeur de la joyeuse troupe avec un thème boogie woogie résolument modéré. Exultation is a short and energetic concert opener that is similar to a palindrome. A fanfare opens the work, juxtaposing 3/4 and 6/8, reminiscent of Latin-American music. The main theme is first heard on the euphonium, horns and saxophones which is very bluesy. The contrasting second theme is short and spikey and played by the bass instruments of the band. A lyric melody emerges as the rest of the orchestra joins in. The second theme reappears which leads back to the ‘blues’ melody, which leads back to the opening fanfare. Palindromic!

Exultation (Jubel) ist ein kurzes, rhythmisch und stilistisch abwechslungsreiches Eröffnungsstück, das in seiner Form einem Palindrom ähnelt: Nach einer Fanfare in einem fast lateinamerikanischen Stil erscheint ein bluesiges“ Hauptthema, das nach einer kurzen Ãœberleitung zu einem zweiten Staccato-Thema führt. Es folgt ein lyrisches Thema, sodann geht es rückwärts wieder zum Stacccato-Thema und dann über die Bluesmelodie“ zurück zur Eröffnungsfanfare und damit zum Anfang und Ende zugleich!

Exultation est une oeuvre courte, rythmée et stylistiquement variée. Sa structure est b tie comme un palindrome, autrement dit, comme une forme particulière d’inversion. L’oeuvre débute avec une fanfare aux accents latino-américains laquelle succèdent un thème « bluesy », une courte transition, un second thème staccato et une mélodie lyrique. Puis le fil s’enroule pour revenir au début. Musique ou symétrie ? Telle est la question.

Exultation è un breve brano di apertura che offre diversit ritmiche e stilistiche e che nella sua forma ricorda un palindromo. Dopo una fanfara in stile latino-americano, appare il tema principale eseguito dagli eufoni, dai corni e dai sax, caratterizzato da accenti di blues che accompagna ad un seconda tema in staccato. Segue un tema lirico, prima di tornare nuovamente al tema in staccato e, attraverso una “melodia blues”, nuovamente alla fanfara di apertura e alla fine del brano.

In these challenging economic times, what better way to show creativity and compliance than this hilarious setting of the traditional Jingle Bells? The opening announcement reminds the audience that our budgets have been cut and the band has been forced to reduce the amount of new instrument purchases. As a result, the band went to the toy shop and bought several new instruments including the kazoo, toy drum, toy xylophone, and trash can lid cymbals among others. Following the tuning of the toys, the swing setting kicks off and features the toys in melody, improvisation and response quotes throughout. Now that’s what I call using our resources!.
