Four Sketches for Band consists of four short movements, with varied character, which depict the atmosphere of an old fashion fairground. The melodies are delightfully entertaining yet have a simple rhythmic structure. The instrumentation of this composition is perfect for bands without a full contingent of players. Each movement of this composition can be used as stand-alone concert item.

Four Sketches for Band bestaat uit vier korte delen die verschillen van karakter. De melodieën zijn aanstekelijk en de boeiende ritmes zijn eenvoudig gehouden. Elk deel schetst een sfeerbeeld van een onderdeel van een oudejaarmarkt: Jugglers and Musicians, Merry-go-round, Giants and Dwarfs en Hustle & Bustle. De instrumentatie is zodanig dat ook orkesten met een onvolledige bezetting het werk probleemloos kunnen spelen. De verschillendedelen zijn los van elkaar geschikt als toegift.

Die Sätze beschreiben Szenen auf einem alten Jahrmarkt: Gaukler und Straßenmusikanten, ein Karussell, Riesen und Zwerge und schließlich das gesamte bunte Treiben werden mit geschickt gesetzten Kontrasten und Wechseln in der Rhythmik und Instrumentierung anschaulich herausgearbeitet. Die einzelnen Sätze eignen sich auch sehr gut als Zugaben.

Reflections is a musical portrayal of the people and moments in our lives which shape and change us. Musical elements from various sources are woven into a rich tapestry of sounds and colors that show the full expressive range of the band. Perfect for contest and festivals! Reflections by Robert Langenfeld, was commissioned by a consortium (alumni/friends/family/UCM Bands/ CTS Pubs) for Dr. Russell Coleman in celebration of his 90th birthday and his service as director of bands at the University of Central Missouri (CMSU) for 32 years. Langenfeld was given guidelines for the composition which included a clarinet soli (Coleman is a clarinetist), excerpts from Dance Prelude (commissioned by Dr. Coleman and the UCM Phi Mu Alpha chapter, written by Claude T. Smith for the CMSU (UCM) Band in 1978), the UCM Alma Mater and the UCM fight song, Go Mules. This work was premiered on June 17, 2018 by the Warrensburg Community Band, under guest conductor, Dr. Anthony Pursell, at the 2018 Missouri Bandmasters Association Summer Convention at Tan-Tar-A in Osage Beach, MO. Dr. Russell Coleman has been the conductor for the Warrensburg Community Band since 1985.

Spirited of the Land, the first of this four movement programmatic work, is inspired by the 1914 painting by Charles Russell, When the Land Belonged to God, and the composer's travel in the west. A Frontier Lawman, vividly depicts the swagger and demeanor of legendary lawman, Nathaniel Kimball Boswell. Cowboy Meditation, the third movement of West!, captures the spirit of the solitary life of the cowboy on the plains - his thoughts and the calls of the wild surrounding him. Railtown Jubilee, brings West! to a close representing the dramatic impact the railroad had on the West. Use this as an opportunity for making interdisciplinary connections.
