Bach Ă©tait depuis peu au service du duc de Weimar lorsqu?il accepta en 1713 une invitation Ă  WeiĂźenfels pour l?anniversaire du duc Christian de Saxe-WeiĂźenfels. Ă€ cette occasion il composa la Cantate de la chasse une cantate de fĂ©licitations Ă  l?adresse du duc passionnĂ© de chasse. Par la suite Bachremania cette cantate pour cĂ©lĂ©brer d?autres fĂŞtes et anniversaires. La Cantate de la chasse est orchestrĂ©e pour quatre voix solistes incarnant des figures mythologiques (Diane Pales Endymion et Pan) un ensemble orchestral assez large (incluant des flĂ»tes/flĂ»tes Ă  bec des hautbois et des cors) et un Chœur mixte. Le texte chantant les vertus de la chasse est un panĂ©gyrique Ă  peine dĂ©guisĂ© du duc rĂ©gnant. AccompagnĂ©e par deux flĂ»tes (flĂ»tes Ă  bec) Palès dĂ©esse des troupeaux et des pâtures entonne l?air Sheep May Safely Graze. Bien que de caractère profane le texte utilise l?image du berger comme l?image mĂŞme de la grâce en rĂ©fĂ©rence Ă  une parole fondamentale de JĂ©sus.

Ainsi Ă  l?exception des rĂ©citatifs la Cantate BWV 207a reprend le tissu musical de la Cantate BWV 207 elle-mĂŞme fortement inspirĂ©e des oncertos brandebourgeois La Cantate BWV 207a est une œuvre datĂ©e de 1735 et dĂ©diĂ©e Ă  Auguste III roi de Pologne et prince Ă©lecteur de Saxe. Jean-SĂ©bastien Bach a composĂ© plusieurs œuvres pour le nouveau souverain en appui Ă  sa candidature au poste de compositeur de la Cour titre honorifique qu?Auguste III lui accordera finalement en 1736.Si le texte de la cantate est un rien obsĂ©quieux la musique est festive et exploite les couleurs luxuriantes de l'orchestration.
