Touted as Britain's second national anthem, this stately tune by C. Hubert H. Parry transcribes beautifully for wind band and would be perfect for concert or festival settings.

By the late 19th century Charles Hubert Parry was probably the most influential figure in English music. His works were performed at all the major festivals and as Director of the Royal College of Music, London, he founded a tradition of teaching form which many of the finest British composers benefitted. Much of his music nowadays in scarcely performed but some works have retained their popularity and none more than his setting of Blake's Jerusalem, published in 1916 and instantly taken up as an anthem during the First World War. Today it rivals Land of Hope and Glory in expressing the spirit of England in music.

Het Paasfeest is zowel in de Oosterse als in de Westerse kerk het grootste feest van het liturgische jaar. De oorsprong van het christelijke Paasfeest ligt in de joodse traditie. Het joodse Pesach is nauw verbonden met de uittochtuit Egypte, de Exodus. Met de christelijke viering wordt eveneens een uittocht herdacht, zij het metaforisch. Jezus Christus liet zichzelf als een paaslam offeren. Tijdens het Paasfeest wordt zijn opstanding uit de dood gevierd.De seculiere paasviering komt onder andere tot uiting in de paashaas en de paaseieren, een symbool van vruchtbaarheid en nieuw leven. De seculiere viering toont zo de oorsprong van het lentefeest. De Easter Suite is een vierdeligwerk, gebaseerd op diverse paasliederen uit de christelijke traditie. Na de feestelijke ouverture, met daarin motieven van See the Conquering Hero Comes en Easter Hymn volgt een deel dat de overgang van de lijdenstijd naar het paasfeestsymboliseert. Er zijn twee liederen in dit deel verwerkt: Coleshill (gez. 199) en O Filii et Filiae (O filii et fili? Rex c?lestis, Rex glori? Morte surrexit hodie. Alleluia (gez. 207). Het derde deel is een intermezzo. (Seethe Conquering Hero Comes, het meest beroemde koor uit Händels oratorium Judas Maccabeus). De Suite wordt feestelijk afgesloten met de bekende paasliederen: Halleluja, de blijde toon (gez. 212) en de onontbeerlijke Easter Hymn (Christus,onze Heer, verrees. gez. 215. Goethe’s Faust has already been set to music by various renowned musicians, such as Berlioz, Busoni and Spohr, and indeed Charles Gounod, who built his eponymous opera around the tale. Gounod’s Faust is primarily known for its lovely melodies and its beautifully expressive vocal parts and subtle orchestrations. One of the high points of this opera is doubtless this impressive Cavatina (“Salut, demeure chaste et pure”). Wil van der Beek has arranged the Cavatina with the euphonium as solo instrument.

Goethes Faust is in het verleden al door verschillende componisten - waaronder Berlioz en Spohr - op muziek gezet. Ook Charles Gounod gebruikte Faust voor zijn gelijknamige opera. Composed in 1907, Idaho is a fast paced circus march. It represents one of about fifty marches composed by C.L. Barnhouse. In this particular arrangement, the opening of the trio has been assigned to the percussion section, as they are often overlooked as an important melodic contributor in many standard quickstep marches. This arrangement of Idaho was prepared by Dr. Timothy Rhea for the Texas A&M University Wind Symphony for their 2011 performance at the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic & Convention.
