Par DE HAAN JAN. Pour cette œuvre, le compositeur Jan de Haan s’est inspiré de cinq peintures exposées à l’Ermitage de Saint-Pétersbourg, l’un des plus grands musées du monde. Il a employé comme point de départ l’émouvant Andante cantabile du Quatuor pour cordes, Op. 11 du compositeur russe Piotr Ilitch Tchaïkovski. Il a ainsi créé sa propre peinture musicale, qui est tout aussi variée que les toiles qui l’ont inspirée – de « Joyeuse compagnie dans une taverne », de Dirck Hals, à « La Danse II », de Henri Matisse. 'A Man's Destiny'-‘Yn Ieren en Sinen’ (‘with much conviction’) was commissioned by CMV Harmonie Sneek (Friesland The Netherlands) to mark their 95th anniversary. As requested by the commissioning party the composer based this work on the life of a former member of the band who played flugelhorn until the age of 86. Music was very important in the eventful life of the man in question. A passionate musician he had a great love for chorale melodies and his favourite piece the famous Canon by the English composer Thomas Tallis (1505-1585) was the source of inspiration for this composition.
