Par COHEN JONATHAN. Grow As A River for Flute Choir, by Jonathan Cohen. Composed for DCFlutes in celebration of their 10th Anniversary. This piece describes the life of a river from inception to maturity. It begins with tenuous drops from melting ice, slowly forming into a brook that playfully dances around rocks and over bumps until it becomes a majestic and peaceful flow. The idyll is shattered by a raging waterfall, the erratic motion and anarchy and terror are gradually replaced by the exhilaration and then peace of motion and arrival. Par MOZART WOLFGANG AMADEUS. Cosi Fan Tutte, K. 588, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the overture arranged here for Flute Choir by Shaul Ben-Meir. Mozart composed Cosi Fan Tutte in 1789, an opera buffa in two acts, premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria, on January 26, 1790. Par COLERIDGE-TAYLOR SAMUEL. Danse Nègre, from the African Suite by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, arranged for flute choir by Paige Dashner Long. Coleridge spent his childhood in Croydon, Surrey, England, where he studied violin with his grandfather and also sang in the church choir. At 15, he was accepted to the Royal College of Music, where during his second year, he changed his major from violin to composition. At the age of 20, he met the African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, who encouraged him to focus on his African heritage. Par VIA KELLY. This Meditation on 'Abide With Me' by Kelly Via was written for the West Michigan Flute Orchestra, under the direction of Julie Sooy. Although originally conceived just prior to the pandemic in early 2020, the melody and words became even more important as our daily lives began to change with the spread of the virus around the world. As the son of a minister, traditional hymns were a big part of the composer's life. for Flute Choir. Par BRAHMS JOHANNES. The Symphony No. 2 of Johannes Brahms was composed in 1877, premiered in December of that year. The Allegretto grazioso (3rd movement), arranged here for flute choir, is reminiscent of the Slavonic Dances of Antonin Dvorak. The flute orchestra version is arranged for six C flute parts, two alto flutes, two bass flutes and a contrabass flute.
