A new full color method with a CD for learning the flute for young children (between 7 and 9 years old). André Jolivet (1905-1974) composed Chant de Linos for the Solo de Concours at the Paris Conservatoire in 1944. Initially written for Flute Harp and String Trio this version contains the scores for the Flute and the Piano. This piece is quite difficult to execute but will stand out in a competition or a recital. Inspired from what is called a Chant de Linos a threnody (or lament to the dead) in the Greek antiquity this piece is also about Linos son of Apollo. A good music player Linos taught Orpheus the Lyre and was killed by Heracles for criticising him too much. André Jolivet is a Frenchcomposer who was really inspired by the Antiquity and had a strong interest for atonality. He also wrote many chamber music pieces eleven concertos some orchestral and some vocal music.

The first of the Two Pieces For Flute And Harp Or Piano Accompaniment “1. The Swans” is a lovely short piece composed by Henri Busser. Really melodious this piece is perfect to work on the flexibility of the tone and a good training to be able execute pieces more difficult. Written mainly in A key not often used by flautists and starting Andantino moderato the piece symbolizes the swans riding on a lake. It features an intro a main theme in [A] which comes back A tempo in [C] and a final Piú moderato finishing with a really high trill. Some difficulties such as the A key and the range usedon this piece will require an intermediate technique: difficulty is rated at 5°. This first piece is followed by the second one: “The squirrels”. Henri Busser (1872-1913) is a French classical composer and Organist. He was a professor at the Paris Conservatoire and a member of the Académie française. He wrote a ballet numerous operas and chamber music.

Les classiques de la flûte n° 74 (rév. Marcel Moyse)-Composed by Jules Demersseman (1833-1866) Concert Solo n?6 Op. 74 has been reviewed by the French flautist Marcel Moyse. Written for Flute and Piano it would fit players with advanced skills and abilities and a great endurance. It contains up to 5 flats and 4 sharps. Part of the series 'Flute Classics' this piece number 76 is among those adapted by P. Taffanel Ph. Gaubert M. Moyse and others. Very enjoyable yet very difficult this piece was written as a Concert Solo and could be easily be used in recitals or contests. Considered as a maestro by some musicians Marcel Moyse hascomposed many Flute methods and exercise books that have also been published by Alphonse Leduc. His methods are widely used and recognised worldwide.

Composed by Theobald Boehm these 24 Studies For The Flute Op.37 were arranged by F. Caratgé. Written for advanced players they feature commentary in French English and German and last approximately over 2 pages. All in G key they are up to 5 flats or 5 sharps and are using high scales very fast rhythms and accidental alterations. These studies are perfect for mastering technique and endurance Theobald Boehm was a German inventor and musician. He conceived the Boehm system for Flute and was an inspiration for many other composers and musicians including Hyacinthe Klosé.

For solo Flute.Composer's Programme Note'March Sonatina is the third in a series of short sonatina-like pieces for soloinstruments and it was commissioned by the 25th Presteigne Festival of Musicand the Arts with funds provided by the Colwinston Charitable Trust and it isdedicated to this most loveable of Festivals. The first performance was given byKathryn Thomas on Tuesday 28th August 2007 at St Mary’s Church Kinnerton.It contrasts a slow opening with a quicker central section and employs a fewspecial flute effects though not to any great extent. In the middle of the piece alyrical phrase from Ravel’sminiature Prelude for piano suddenly pops up andis then varied. It was a surprise to me to find that a high F sharp on which thesonatina ends seemed absolutely the right note on which to finish. Theatmosphere of the opening section seems to me to relate closely to a number ofrecent pieces inspired by rainforests.'

Essential Exercises-The Petites Etudes are of similar melodic charm as Gariboldi's Études mignonnes Op.131 (Schott ED 20354). A bit more virtuoso with regard to the fingering technique and articulation (and with the additional keys E major and Ab major) they are in a sense a continuation of his 'mignonnes'. In this volume the use of dynamics and the articulation described in great detail are essential to the interpretation of the études. Performed accurately they freshen the sound and sharpen the listener's perception especially through the constantly varying execution of similar motifs. If practised accordingly the Petites Etudescan improve technical skills considerably.
