Essential Exercises-The Petites Etudes are of similar melodic charm as Gariboldi's Études mignonnes Op.131 (Schott ED 20354). A bit more virtuoso with regard to the fingering technique and articulation (and with the additional keys E major and Ab major) they are in a sense a continuation of his 'mignonnes'. In this volume the use of dynamics and the articulation described in great detail are essential to the interpretation of the études. Performed accurately they freshen the sound and sharpen the listener's perception especially through the constantly varying execution of similar motifs. If practised accordingly the Petites Etudescan improve technical skills considerably.

Études Mignonnes Op. 131 by Giuseppe Gariboldi is a series of 20 studies arranged for Flute. Written with growing difficulty  Études Mignonnes Op. 131 are easy for beginners to intermediate players. Giuseppe Gariboldi (1833-1905) is an Italian flautist and composer who wrote numerous pieces for Flute. Most of his study books are still used to teach the Flute including also '20 Little studies Op. 132' or 'Daily exercises Op. 89'.

Written in 1747 while C P E Bach was in Berlin probably for his then employer Frederick the Great or for Frederick's teacher J J Quantz this work was not printed until 1763. Like his father J S Bach C P E Bach chose the key of A minor for his only compositon for solo Flute but it's structure is quite different to that of Bach senior. Like J. S. Bach's Partita in A minor (BWV 1013) the sonata edited here is considered one of the most important works for solo Flute of the eighteenth century. In contrast to J. S. Bach's composition which still represents the traditional polyphonic and figurative style the work of the youngBach displays great sensitivity and occasionally an almost romantic expressiveness. This new edition of C. P. E. Bach's Sonata in A minor is based on a copy in the anthology 'Musikalisches Mancherley'; the editor owes his thanks to the Zurrich Central Library.
