Concerto IX. Woodcock’s only surviving musical compositions are a set of twelve concertos (3 for flute, 3 for recorder, and 3 for oboe) published by Walsh and Hare in London circa 1727. The concertos were originally published under the title: XII Concertos. The three flute concertos in this set are the earliest known published for that instrument, and the three oboe concertos are the first known by an English composer. Vivaldi published his opus 10 flute concertos shortly thereafter, in c.1728, and the earliest oboe concertos were published by the Italian composer Albinoni in 1715.

Know The Score is a guide to quicker learning for advanced flautists. It was originally published in 2012 and designed with the DipABRSM Quick Study in mind – a previously unseen extended piece of music for which 5 minutes preparation time was given prior to an assessed performance. The music was at roughly grade 6 level, based on an assumption that a diploma standard player should be capable of tackling the test in this relatively short amount of time. Following the recent withdrawal of the qualification, the continued aim of this newly edited series is to boost the more advanced player’s confidence at quick learning. Two assumptions are made here — that you are a diploma level flautist, and that a reasonable level of sight-reading skill is in place. That said, if you’re less proficient at sight-reading, you should find much in the book that will help you to improve and feel more confident. Alternatively, the book will be of interest to teachers seeking varied, approachable repertoire and theory content to support a keen grade 6 pupil’s longer-term learning. The BAND TIME series consists of a number of books containing easy pieces suitable for youth band. BAND TIME Starter is intended for the first year of band playing and includes four-part pieces in many different styles. The difficulty of the pieces increases in parallel with the material covered in the first part of the Look, Listen & Learn method. The first three works, however, are three-part pieces in order to accommodate the limited range of notes available at this stage.
