Inspired by a tour to Brazil with the Campbellsville Univeristy Chorale, Rio de Janeiro for Flute and Piano was written for Cristina Soares, a native of Rio de Janiero. The opening section in 7-beat phrases is meant to evoke the laid back attitude of the city with some bossa-nova style. An abrupt change in character leads to the more energetic side of the city, incorporating Latin rhythms, syncopation, and some blues inspired chromaticsim. There is a return to the original section, but this time in a minor mode and at a faster tempo, concluding with the lively energy that Rio de Janiero is known for.

Seth Johnson (b.1989) is a composer, pianist, and cellist from Kentucky. He holds a Bachelor's of Arts in Music Theory/Composition and a Master's Degree in Music from Campbellsville University, where he served as composer-in-residence, principal cellist for the University Orchestra, and accompanist for the University Chorale. His works include numerous pieces for orchestra including Superhero Symphony, various solo/chamber pieces, as well as scores for the award winning Kentucky Education Television series My Kentucky Home.

This dreamlike and evocative piece from Peter Maxwell Davies was originally composed for Flute and orchesta. Here it is presented as Flute with Piano reduction and still captures the wonder and sanctuary of the composer's home, surrounded by seabirds and seals that fire the imagination in childlike ways, evoking images of mermaids and angels. The Flute solo is both tranquil and highly virtuosic and is well supported by the Piano accompaniment. The piece was first performed in May 1999 at the Royal Concert Hall, Dublin.

Moj e Bukura Moré (My Beautiful Morea) has its origin in Southern Italy, in Calabria, where an Albanian community has lived for more than 500 years, and so has the song! The tenderness of the melodic lines expresses the natural beauty of the distant homeland, which according to legend can be seen from the Calabrian mountain-tops. As in most folk songs, this tune is remarkably short; the melody itself has not been altered, but has been extended, enriched in texture and presented in different ways. The melodic lines serve as a point of departure for the proliferation of a distinct harmonic vocabulary. TS.
