This diversity continually enriches his educational work as can be seen by the success of his flute method La flûte imaginative published by Leduc in two volumes (AL 30 365 and 30 367). Fête à Camelot a piece for Flute and Piano (or Harp) for fourth-year students reconnects with the Knights of the Round Table an imaginary world that has long been a source of musical inspiration for Ledeuil: the key figures of the legend appear in hisLes Méandres de Viviane (AL 30 495 Beginner) and Les Mystères de Brocéliande (AL 29 589 Intermediate). This work is set in King Arthur?s fortress: the great halls ring out with the sounds of joyful festivities interspersed with echoes of Viviane?s song. A Knight?s story of his quest for the Holy Grail is followed by the furtive appearance of Morgan le Fay but she gives way to the Lady of the Lake ? Viviane ? whose distant melody shrouds itself in melancholy tones. The work concludes with a fisel a traditional Breton dance that whips the troubadours? enchanted instruments into a frenzy.

From Fancies Pour Piano-This Sérénade is the first of 7 pieces collectively called 'Fancies' originally written for piano in 1915.Gabriel Marie Grovlez (1879-1944) was born in Lille Northern France in 1879 and died in war-torn Paris in 1944. From among his teachers who include Gédalge and Lavignac Fauré must surely rank as his strongest influence and this is readily heard in his small but significant oeuvre of solo piano pieces as well as his music for stage and chamber ensembles. Interestingly most of the piano music was published over a period of around a dozen years (1907-1919) and in the lull between these works and his Impressions (two pieces) of 1934 Grovlez wascompositionally preoccupied with songs and chamber pieces many of which languish patiently on the shelf awaiting a wholehearted appraisal. There is as well as his notable penchant for elegance and poetical lyricism a considerable wit to enjoy too (take Les nes The Donkeys from L'Almanach aux images for example) and indeed the fact that Grovlez's middle years were spent fulfilling the duties of assistant conductor and choir leader of the Opéra-Comique seems especially revealing of the man's musical personality and capacity for successfully intertwining serious and less serious genres.Grovlez was quite a cosmopolitan character; besides making a notable mark in his native country (he was latterly a professor of chamber music at the Paris Conservatoire) he travelled to the United States and Africa as well as across Europe. Although we tend to remember Grovlez today for his influence primarily as a composer in the mould of Fauré or Debussy bringing a quirky quality to some of his writing more than occasionally reminiscent of Poulenc it was as a conductor that Grovlez initially made an impact. Moreover we should not overlook the fact that he gave the inaugural performances of some highly treasured works by the likes of Ravel (Ma Mère l'Oye) and Fauré (Dolly Suite) a piano duet which has earned an especially important

French composer Henri Büsser entered the Paris Conservatoire in 1889. He won the 1893 Prix de Rome and led a highly successful career as a composer conductor teacher and organist. His compositions for a variety of instruments are exceptional Prélude Et Scherzo for Flute and Piano being no exception. As reflected in Prélude Et Scherzo Büsser's compositional style was sophisticated yet true to the 19th century French tradition. Elements of the Prélude include chromaticism use of a wide tessitura complex rhythms and virtuosic semiquaverflourishes. The Scherzo displays use of varying time signatures a quick tempo and scalic passages. For all advanced Flute players Büsser's Prélude Et Scherzo is essential to a varied repertoire.

André Jolivet (1905-1974) established his love for composition from a young age. This remained throughout his life and he held the post of Professor of Composition from 1966-1970 at the Paris Conservatoire. Fantaisie Caprice for Flute and Piano was published in 1954 and remains highly regarded. Jolivet himself a cellist wished to explore composition for all instruments and therefore has a considerable number of works in all fields. The composer's style is also known for its spirituality and the desire to associate the everyday with the magical and the human with the universal. Jolivet draws on acoustics andatonality as heard in his Caprice Fantasy. The piece requires advanced skills due to its use of complex rhythms and exploited tonality. For all advanced flautists Jolivet provides an exciting alternative piece for the instrument's repertoire.
