Coleridge spent his childhood in Croydon, Surrey, England, where he studied violin with his grandfather and also sang in the church choir. At 15, he was accepted to the Royal College of Music, where during his second year, he changed his major from violin to composition. At the age of 20, he met the African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, who encouraged him to focus on his African heritage. Seeking to bridge the educational divide between modern flute and baroque flute performance opportunities, Traverso Colore was founded in early 2005 as an outgrowth of the baroque flute class at Florida State University. They are a baroque flute ensemble that promotes baroque music on period instruments and creates more opportunities for flutists to perform original and arranged works from this historical era. From the composer: ?We have all experienced a noisy vehicle going by rapidly and hearing a raised pitch as the vehicle approaches and a lowered pitch as it recedes. This Doppler shift manifests itself in light, as well: light from stars approaching us has its frequency raised, shifting it to the blue end of the spectrum; light from receding stars is shifted to the red. For Sophie Dufeutrelle Professor of Flute at the Ecole Nationale de Musique de Villeurbanne an intense pedagogical activity goes hand in hand with composition an area in which she has received several commissions from esteemed soloists such as Maxence Larrieu and Philippe Bernold. Written in 2002 for a Flute Orchestra of around 20 instruments (from the Piccolo to the Octobass) Marine belongs to a tradition cherished by painters since the 16th century: the maritime landscape. The 1st movement (Mist) opens onto a lengthy section largely dedicated to improvisation in the spirit of Walter Thompson’s soundpainting: using fingermovements the conductor signs to the musicians the type of motif (calm sea swell whistling buoys seagulls and fishing boats) that will insert itself ad libitum between two lines of waves. The 2nd movement more traditional floats a Song of heartbreaking melancholy followed by a light lively Dance that swirls the heart into joyful eddies. Written for intermediate-level flautists (with one part reserved for beginners) this piece with its variety of atmospheres concludes on a high note – in the joy of making music together!

Par MAGALIF EUGENE. Ave Maria for Flute Choir by Eugene Magalif. From the composer: 'The creation of a new Ave Maria requires a certain amount of courage from composers. There are many versions of Ave Maria in the world and it is very risky to compete with Schubert, Bach or Caccini (Vavilov). I did not begin to compose another aria, but composed a polyphonic version, in which the intertwining voices, harmony, unusual rhythm changes and a wide palette of shades play the main role.
