“Contemporary guitarist, Pierre Cullaz fills a large gap with his Technique for guitarists in all Styles</strong.> The compilation is essential to all serious guitarists of all styles. The first volume of Technique for guitarists in all Styles gives focus to the technique of both the right hand and left hand, pickstrokes, chords, fingering, rhythms and scales, among other aspects. Considering that few Guitar technique books currently exist, Cullaz's Technique for guitarists in all Styles provides an essential addition to the study of the instrument.&rdquo.

Gitarre Spelen is a German language guitar method for children split across three books Experienced tutor, and author of this series, Andreas Schumann points out that the average age of students is getting younger, as children are starting their lessons sooner than ever before. Because of this he has designed an approach to teaching the guitar with the needs of younger players in mind. For instance, the melodies here are in small manageable chunks and it is an easy method which considers the smaller hands being used. It is also important that they play tunes they know and so international folksongs and nursery rhymes have been included here. Book One features Tom and Lena, two children who will help guide students through and enable them to have as much fun as possible! They give tips, suggestions, advice and directions throughout to ensure the student is always kept informed! This is an enjoyable and practical group learning method that encourages and adds confidence whilst covering the important basics, rudiments and techniques needed to play the guitar including fingerstyle and first chords.

Giovanni Podera: Fantasia (In memoriam JoaquÃn Rodrigo)Marco Reghezza: Nana EstrelladaMarco Simoni: Junto a RodrigoMarco Smaili: Fronda de la tarde (Homenaje a JoaquÃn Rodrigo)Paolo Ugoletti: Fuga a 4 vociFollowing the successful publication of Homenaje a Rodrigo (2015), containing four pieces by Alessandro Spazzoli – one of which was performed in the presence of the composer’s daughter, Cecilia Rodrigo, during her visit to the International Convention in Alessandria –, here is the second volume. It contains more tributes to Rodrigo written on my input by five well-known Italian and Spanish composers, two of whom are also guitarists and have therefore written the fingering for their own pieces.Giovanni Podera plunges us into a typically Rodrigo-like atmosphere with his evocative Fantasia, while the following three compositions are full of direct quotations from pieces also for guitar by the great composer from Valencia. Thus, Marco Simoni, in his expressive Junto a Rodrigo – which also provides the title to the volume – plays with themes taken from Junto al Generalife and from Dos piezas caballerescas for a cello ensemble as well as hinting at reminiscences of Tiento antiguo. As for Marco Smaili, in his impressionistic Fronda de la tarde, he evokes quite evidently Zarabanda lejana and Invocación y Danza, but there are more hidden references to Caminos de Santiago and even to the very famous Concierto de Aranjuez. Marco Reghezza builds his heart-breaking Nana estrellada on a sequence of chords used by Rodrigo in the fantasia ¡Que buen caminito!. On the other hand, there are no direct quotations and echoes of Rodrigo’s way of writing in the Fuga a quattro voci by Paolo Ugoletti. However it was Rodrigo himself who constructed four-part imitative passages for guitar in Pasacalle and in the Ricercare of the Fantasia para un Gentilhombre. The close polyphony of the piece by Ugoletti may be considered as a tribute to this kind of craft shown by Rodrigo who, like Ugoletti, was able to write such dense and idiomatic counterpoint without being a guitar-player.I am pleased that this volume comes out in the imminence of the 20th anniversary of the disappearance of the illustrious Spanish composer who gave so much to the musicians – and not only to them.(Piero Bonaguri)Muchas gracias por este emotivo y excelente musical homenaje a mi padre. Completed in Karstula, Finland during late July 2010, this carefully structured, but also free-ranging work is drawn from ideas for a much earlier work in four movements, Fantasy dating from the 1980s. Kai Nieminen has been for a long time an admirer of the work of artist Paul Klee (1879-1940), and the solo presented in its final form here is influenced by the painting Dances caused by Fear or as it is often refered to Dancing from Fear painted towards the end of Klee's life in Bern, 1938. Having left Germany for Switzerland in December 1933, Klee's later works were often full of signs and lines, very often represented in black, depicting human figures or various objects against a variety of coloured backgrounds, in the case of this painting of a brownish hue. This development in his painting style and technique is felt by some to be an effect perhaps of his long-term illness, systemic sclerosis, but in the case of Dances caused by Fear there is suggested an atmosphere of panic and terror, an attempt to escape from horrors to come (World War II), represented in the violent movement of the arms and legs of the figures, and the dark, indeed brooding nature of the colours. In Kai Nieminen's guitar work Images of Fear, there is only a very brief passage of calm at the very beginning, after which come three main connected sections in which a wide range of musically unsettling ideas emerge one by one, making use of the tritone, minor seconds, glissandos, tamboura, campanella, etc. The third and final section incorporates the grouping of 5 sixteenth-notes, to give an uneasy feeling to the music, with a short haunting and pleading five-note phrase (Cantando) heard immediately following this passage, before the work ends with further glissandos, and distant and diminishing harmonics. As with Kai Nieminen's other guitar works, the use of 'orchestral colour' is vital to the performance, and passages suggestive of for example brass, strings, woodwind, etc., should be taken into account and played with suitably considered contrast of tone. In contrast to Llobet´s output of just 14 original works, his transcriptions for guitar number 118, a considerable quantity of an extremely high standard. These were a huge influence on the two generations of guitarists following Llobet some of whom mercilessly and anonymously plundered and disfigured them for their own use! Being also an accomplished pianist, Llobet was in a better position than any other of his contemporaries to transcribe the German Romantic Masters, as well as the piano music of Albéniz and Granados, among others. Transcribed by Llobet mainly during his formative years these transcriptions are masterpieces which transcend their original setting. In his early career, Segovia played many transcriptions of Llobet, eg Bach's Prélude in Dm, Sarabande, Bourrée, Gavotte. This volume is highly recommended.

Between 1717 and 1723 Johann Sebastian Bach composed Six Suites for Violoncello (BWV 1007 - BWV 1012). Of these, the first three have been transcribed for Guitar in this coursebook, which in itself is a considerable amount of work. For guitarists these compositions are a real challenge - a challenge, however, that brings with it a lot of benefits.
