They were a spontaneous expression of musical joy that occurred over much of northern Europe in the fifteenth century, coinciding with the dawning of the modern age and the ending of the long medieval night. The selections include universal favorites, some tunes which are popular in their native lands and reasonably well-known elsewhere, and others which are unfamiliar even in their homelands. Some familiar texts, including 'Away in a Manger' and 'Angels from the Realms of Glory,' have been set to different tunes. Notes on the origin of each tune are included. Of Mickey Baker and The Alex Sanders Funk Time Band-Mickey Baker best known for his Mickey & Slyvia hit Love is Strange lived in France for the last thirty years of his life. During that time he played jazz as well as delving back into the roots of Black American music. As a result he began to experiment with various country blues techniques and styles. This exploration led to his album Blues and Jazz Guitar of Mickey Baker (SGGW107). At the same time he also began to perform as a solo jazz and blues artist which was quite different than his past where he usually fronted either a jazz or a rock band. His solo blues playing took him around Europe and during the last years of histouring throughout Africa on three occasions. On his last tour of Africa he was joined by the excellent bass player Alex Sanders and Mickey's show was able to expand to the full gambit of his musical experiences - from country blues to jazz. During this tour Alex and Mickey started to compose together and decided to try and record an album that would highlight their sounds and explorations. This is in fact the first jazz rock guitar album that Mickey Baker has ever done. It is full of surprises and intriguing sounds from a rendition of Rachmaninoff's Prelude In C# Minor to the disco sound of Alexander's Funk Time to the 7/4 of Ouagadougou. Plus for this album Mickey combined his skills of being one of the finest jazz guitarists with those of a teacher and prepared a tab/music booklet for students.

Initialement originaire du nord de l'Inde, les Roms ont été incessamment repoussés (pour des motifs xénophobes le plus souvent) jusqu'a ce qu'ils s'implantent de la péninsule ibérique aux portes de l'Asie centrale. Du fait de cette histoire mouvementée, leur musique possède de nombreuses facettes et couleurs différentes, qui varient selon le pays d'origine des musiciens. C'est ainsi qu'en Espagne, le métissage avec la culture arabo-andalouse a donné naissance au flamenco. Les Roms sont appelés en français Gitans, Tziganes ou Tsiganes, Manouches, Romanichels, Bohémiens, Sinti, ou Gens du voyage. Les Tziganes sont les Roms qui vivent en Europe de l'est. Les Manouches résident soit en Alsace, soit sur les bords de la Loire, ainsi qu'en Belgique, en Hollande et en Allemagne. Les Gitans (appelés aussi Calés) vivent pour la plupart dans la péninsule ibérique, l'Afrique du nord et le sud de la France. On retrouve dans les traditions qu'englobe le terme de musique tzigane presque toujours les mêmes instruments comme le violon, l'accordéon, la guitare, la contrebasse ou le cymbalum. Cette tradition des instruments à cordes doit être mise en relation avec la tradition musicale indo-européenne en général. Les musiciens tziganes ont développé un mode de jeu qui leur est propre, pour chacun des instruments qu'ils utilisent, et qui conjugue bien souvent vitesse d'exécution et improvisations ponctuées de trilles et d'appoggiatures.
