It became an international hit when Christina Aguilera joined A Great Big World on a re-recorded version in 2013. Sylvia Woods has made a 4-page advanced beginner to intermediate arrangement playable on either lever or pedal harp. This music features a pedal point (also called a pedal note or pedal tone) which is a sustained or continually repeated note that is held constant while harmonies change in other parts. A pedal point is usually found in the bass but here it is in the middle register. Virtually every measure includes a middle Cnote on the downbeat. Sometimes it is played with the right hand and at other times with the left. But it is almost always there. This pedal point harmony is what originally drew me into this beautiful piece of music the first time I heard it on the radio. The music is in the key of C and no sharping levers are required as there are no lever changes. Fingerings lyrics and chord symbols are included. The harp range required is 24 strings from a low C up to an E. It can be played on 24-string to 26-string harps with a C as the lowest string if you play both hands an octave higher than written.

Two solos in jazz idiom for pedal or non-pedal harp-Two solos in the jazz idiom for Pedal or Non-Pedal Harp by Stewart Green. Stewart Green began writing music for the Piano at an early age. Taking up the Viola and Oboe in his teens he later went to the University College of North Wales (Bangor) where he studied composition with among others William Matthias and Reginald Smith Brindle. Gaining a B. Mus. (hons) degree in 1960 he returned to his old school in Richester to teach class and instrumental music. Four years later he enlisted as oboist to the Band of HM Coldstream Guards which opened many doors including performances of his compositions and arrangements in many National venues on discand broadcast by the BBC on Radios 2 & 3. His years at Bangor had enabled him to fulfil a childhood dream of learning the Harp which he was later able to develop when he left the army and moved with his wife Sue and young family to Lowestoft as a peripatetic woodwind tutor for Suffolk County Music Service. His Flights Of Fancy and Blistering Along! appear on ABRSM and Trinity College Harp examination syllabuses while the Spartan Press publication Saxofun is on Suffolk's own exam syllabus. Since 1999 Stewart has been senior Woodwind Tutor for Suffolk and since 2002 Harp tutor as well! Stewart's recent publication She'll Be Comin' Round The Mountain was written for the North Suffolk String Orchestra as was Haunted House. He was a successful composer writing for a variety of instruments including the Harp such as his Six Pieces. Despite his studies being interrupted by WWI Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) won the Grand Prix de Rome on his first attempt proving his ability from a young age. Ibert enjoyed tackling all styles and form of modernity with equal success. His Six Pieces for Harp display frequent changes of tempo time signature and key signature as well as the use of complexrhythms and varied articulation. This companion CD will assist harp players in learning the pieces in the 50 Irish Melodies for All Harps book. Since many will want to ?play along? as they learn Sylvia has recorded most of the pieces slowerthan they are usually played and as ?straight? as possible with little or no expression or rhythmic variations. Each piece has two arrangements: (A) an easy version and (B) one that is more difficult. On theserecordings Sylvia plays version A directly followed by version B. Since the two versions can be played as a duet you can play either version along with the recording. The companion CD includes all the pieces from the book and inthe same order.

Petite Berçeuse by Alphonse Hasselmans is a really sweet melody that can be played on lever or pedal Harps. Easy to play for both hands it perfect for medium-beginners (second years). Written on a double page the finger positions are indicated to help the young players execute this piece properly. It will enable them to play a music piece aside from their usual exercises. Alphonse Hasselmans (1845-1912) was a Belgian-born French Harpist a great composer and renowned professor. He composed numerous pieces for Harp and transcribed numerous works for the Harp. He also edited and reviewed a collection ofworks by Bochsa. His most famous piece is a concert piece called 'The Wellspring Op. 44'.

A Traditional Irish Christmas Carol Arranged for Solo Harp-That Night in Bethlehem is the gorgeous traditional Irish Christmas carol Don Oíche ud i mBeithil. Sylvia has created a 4-verse arrangement playable on lever or pedal harp. Each verse is a bit harder than the one before so less experienced players can play the verses at their level. The music is in the key of E minor (1 sharp). There is one C# lever change in the 3rd verse. Fingerings and chord symbols are included. The lyrics printed in the music are David Monks' English translation. The original Irish Gaelic and a phonetic version are included on the last page. This beautiful Celtic carol will be a wonderful addition to your Christmas repertoire.
