En 1974 Odette Gartenlaub répond à une commande du CNSM pour le concours des Prix de cor en composant une pièce pour cor et piano qui s?intitule tout simplement « Pour le cor ».
Quelques années plus tard, en 2001, Patrice Petitdidier lui demande de l?arranger pour l?Ensemble de cors de l?Île de France. La partition qui voit ainsi le jour en 2001 se présente sous la forme d?un octuor de cors en fa de six minutes environ, dont les parties de soliste et de piano ont été redistribuées et spatialisées entre les huit cornistes. Les passages un peu virtuoses, destinés à faire briller le soliste, ont été supprimés ce qui donne à l?Octuor plus de densité et une plus grande unité.

German baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist becoming a composer against his family's wishes. However his musical career saw him hold important positions and to this day he remains a major composer. His sublime Concerto is superbly arranged here for Horn Quartet Trumpet Quartet or Clarinet Quartet by Robert King. King's arrangement of the Concerto for Horn Trumpet or Clarinet Quartet includes all three movements; 1) Adagio and Allegro 2) Grave and 3) Allegro.
