Originally written as a theme song for a television show, this swinger thrives on keeping good time and playing with a solid sound. A fully-voiced sax soli and full band shout are highlights, and short fills by the drummer are the only 'solo' requirements. Duration ca. 2:20.

This lovely ballad for developing groups is a tip-of-the-hat to the tuneful ballads of the 1940's and 1950's. Warm textures are created by the densely voiced chords and winding melody. Written or ad lib solo space is provided for trumpet. While the tempo and note values of a ballad are accessible in terms of technical and range demands, working on proper blend, balance, and nuance will sustain the interest of even the most seasoned groups. Each set includes a guitar chord chart by Jim Greeson. Duration 3:30.

Named for Count Basis's hometown (Red Bank, NJ), this piece is a great way to introduce your band to the laid-back ensemble style of Neal Hefti's charts for the Basic band. The harmony is interesting, but Mike's careful attention to voice leading makes it very easy to play. This composition is a must for every beginning jazz ensemble library.
