Samba de Orphee arranged by Kris Berg is bright, happy, upbeat, and festive throughout with the initial melody stated by alto 1 and trumpet 2 with solo chord changes for each. Emulating the music of Bob Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider and Gil Evans, this creative original opens with a haunting melody played by solo flugelhorn before the burning swing groove kicks in. Solo choruses later on feature flugelhorn and tenor, and the chart ends on a quiet note. Recorded by the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band on the CD Lab 2009.
