Leave it to the creative mind of composer Steve Wiest to come up with a crazy title and chart to match! This is definitely not your grandmother's swing tune. It is a great choice if you are looking for something outside the box that has fun parts for everybody.

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of a 20th century masterwork with this authentic retelling of Long Distance Runaround, originally recorded by British progressive rock band Yes. An iconic moment in pop and rock history is scored neatly for big band with the option to feature either a vocalist or tenor sax soloist. Just like the original, powered by bass guitar and sprightly jazz drums, this version captures the spirit of adventurous art rock. Two, brief open solos for any instrument cap the long outro.

It's holiday mash-up time! This is a clever combination of the traditional carol with sultry Brazilian jazz a la Stan Getz. Two transcribed solos are provided for tenor sax and trumpet (or flugelhorn) that mirror the recorded solos, or they can be improvised as desired. The rhythm section parts are fully realized along with suggested piano voicings and bass lines. This is a relaxed and laid-back chart that features sectional solis and the full ensemble for a fresh and modern addition to holiday concert repertoire. Optional parts are included for flute/violin, clarinet and F horn, and the lead trumpet range is to written E top of staff. Highly recommended!

Understated, straight-ahead swing à la Dave Brubeck meets a traditional English Christmas carol. There's mostly full-ensemble playing with a brief, written trumpet solo, cued for Trombone. Drums played with brushes and optional Bells are featured. A charming addition to the holiday library. (Top Trumpet Note: G5).
