Fiddler on the Roof endures as one of the landmark musicals of all time. Michael Brown's opening production for the field starts with a “flute on the roof ” joined shortly by a solo clarinet. After a quick buildto a climax “Matchmaker” is treated creatively in 4/4 and a driving tempo. With plenty of variety and powerful ensemble scoring this is a perfect way to open a show.

The song “To Life” provides the inspiration for this unique production number. A lyrical introduction quickly gives way to a driving statement of the main theme. Along the way the percussion section is featured and asolo trumpet leads into a dramatic accelerando and segue into an ending treatment of “Tradition.” Michael provides a few harmonic surprises and dramatic effects throughout.
