This march was written for the Durham MS Band in Lewisville, TX, an enthusiastic group of young musicians, growing in their technique and musicality and eager to sound like the big kids. Pride of the Maroon Dragons features a variety of articulations for the trumpets and upper woodwinds in the first strain, and a bold melody for the low brass and low woodwinds in the second. The trio features a smooth, legato melody in the clarinets and horns, followed by a melodic refrain in which every section has something important to say. Par PASTORE CARMINE. Fun for all!! The chorale style opening soon turns into a rousing, funky-jazzy-gospel riff-style roof-raiser that will have your audience tapping along. It's nice for the concert band to get the opportunity to play something 'jazzy' once in a while, and you know the audience will love it as much as the band does. Plenty of opportunity to study jazz-style phrasing in the concert band, interesting Percussion parts, a catchy tune and good linear motion for all move GETTIN' GOSPEL to the 'top of the list'. Par BULLA STEPHEN. The inspiration for this piece, commissioned by the United States Army Band, came from the Gulf and its constant presentation to the world as a media event on television. The composer wanted to capture the colour and events of war as they were played out on the television screen. Composed as a single movement rhapsody, the work is framed by the riveting sounds of airborne bombing raids with brass and percussion combining to create a gripping sense of tension. / Niveau : 5 / Pièce de concert / Répertoire / Fanfare

Par VAN DER ROOST JAN. This 4-movement suite is based on authentic folktunes from the beautiful southern province in France: the 'Provence'. The composer used an harmonic language respecting the popular characteristics, but on the other hand also contains some 'spicy' notes (. . . just like the wellknown 'Provençal sauce'! . . . ). The instrumentation is very colourful, paying a lot of attention to the different timbres of both brass and wood winds as well as to the percussion section. Every movement has its own character: 'Un Ange a fa la crido' (= An angel brought the creed / credo) is like a bourrée, 'Adam e sa Coumpagnou' (= Adam and his companion) is an old love song, 'Lou Fustié' (= the carpenter)a fast dance and finally 'Lis Escoubo' (= a whistle tune / popular ballad) is a farandole. In the latter, the old tradition of folk musicians who play a whistle with one hand and a drum with the other hand, is clearly represented during the first presentations of the one and only theme)Although this piece is not too demanding, a well balanced band is necessary to perform it successfully. Thanks to the contrasts and the varying colours, it keeps on holding the attention. / Niveau : 3 / Répertoire / Fanfare

Slow March. Par VAN DER ROOST JAN. Orion est une marche lente qui se distingue par son caractère optimiste et sa fraîcheur. Cette marche de concert, techniquement peu exigeante, est accessible à un grand nombre de formations. Le choix de l’instrumentation permet également aux petits ensembles de l’interpréter avec un rendu tout aussi homogène. Pour composer Free Mind, un morceau léger et dynamique, Marc Jeanbourquin s’est inspiré d’un chant gospel, « Oh, Freedom », qui parle de la liberté afro-américaine de l'après-guerre civile. En ces temps de crise, le compositeur voulait évidemment garder un esprit positif et énergique, symbolisant l'espoir de jours meilleurs. Les quatre notes du thème « Oh, Freedom » sont présentes du début à la fin de l'œuvre, le tout agrémenté d’une percussion vivante qui apporte à Free Mind un caractère pétillant pour agrémenter un début de concert plein d’enthousiasme. / Date parution : 2022-07-20/ Répertoire / Fanfare

Dans les années 1990, la chanteuse américano-cubaine Gloria Estefan réalise un pétillant enregistrement du standard de la musique disco Turn the Beat Around de Vicki Sue Robinson. Évoluant sur un rythme typiquement latinoaméricain, la chanson « revue et corrigée » par Gloria Estefan connaît un nouveau succès planétaire. Peter Kleine Schaars a réalisé un excellent arrangement contenant un solo fascinant pour la percussion. La musique est dynamique, rythmée et passionnante.
