À cette occasion il composa la Cantate de la chasse une cantate de félicitations à l?adresse du duc passionné de chasse. Par la suite Bachremania cette cantate pour célébrer d?autres fêtes et anniversaires. Dans plusieurs mouvements de cette œuvre le compositeur a intégré une mélodie indienne ancienne provenant du Dakota du Sud.1. Le Grand Esprit : la culture des Indiens Dakota était liée à la terre et au monde des esprits. Dans leurs croyances le Grand Esprit avait créé la terre en jetant une balle noire dans l?eau puis il prit une deuxième balle et créa les êtres vivants. 2. La chasse au bison : courir à bride abattue vers un bisonvigoureux nécessitait beaucoup d?adresse et de courage. Pourtant les hommes attendaient impatiemment l?occasion de pouvoir faire leurs preuves à la chasse.3. Fumer le calumet: le calumet était le symbole de la paix. Au XIe siècle des moines chassés de leurs temples s?installèrent sur ?les colonnes du ciel? mais ce n?est qu?au XIVe siècle que les premiers monastères furent construits. La vie monastique fut florissante au cours des siècles qui suivirent. Plus de vingt monastères furent érigés et une communauté monastique autonome s?y établit. Jusqu?au milieu du XVIIIe siècle les monastères des Météoresservirent de centres d?éducation de lettres et d?art.Sur les vingt-quatre monastères initiaux seuls six sont encore en activité actuellement dont quatre sont ouverts au public. En raison de l?amélioration des infrastructures et de la forte affluence touristique peu de jeunes moines souhaitent s?y établir. La tâche s?avère difficile ; six jours durant une impressionnante armée commandée par Jéhovah encercle la ville. Le septième jour l?armée fait sept fois le tour de la ville. Les pr?tres soufflent dans leurs trompettes et le peuple crie à tel point que les murs de Jérichofinissent par s?effondrer. Les Juifs en profitent pour prendre la ville d?assaut et en chasser tous les habitants. D?un point de vue musical on reconnaît clairement les bruits de bottes d?une armée marchant au pas et les murs s?effondrer dans un fracas assourdissant et ce bien que l?histoire ne soit pas retracée littéralement.Une mélodie à la fois majestueuse et grandiose traduit le sentiment de victoire ressenti à la suite de la prise de la ville fortifiée (troisième partie).Une oeuvre romancée qui débouche finalement sur une f?te populaire juive (quatrième partie) o? les mélodies virtuoses des bois et les rythmes entraînants renvoient à la musique traditionnelle juive. Tous les thèmes reviennent sous différentes formes dans cette dernière partie souvent m?me tous ensemble dans un contrepoint de contrastes.
