Vaughan Williams wrote Symphony No. 8 between 1953 and 1955 while in his eighties. It is his shortest symphony and considered by many to be his least serious. Aside from a few sombre moments the symphony is optimistic in mood and displays Vaughan Williams' love for exotic and colourful combinations of instruments with a percussion section that he said employs 'all the 'phones and 'spiels known to the composer'. Ralph Vaughan Williams' Flos Campi for SATB wordless chorus Viola solo and Orchestra. Part for Viola.This work is one of Vaughan Williams's most enigmatic pieces. Although the six movements all borrow their titles from the Old Testament's Song of Solomon the Chorus never articulates a single word. Instead it serves as a section of the Orchestra creating an elegant vocal texture and backdrop to the Viola's haunting solo lines.Flos Campi was premiered in October 1925 by the violist Lionel Tertis singers from the RCM and the Queen's Hall Orchestra directed by Sir Henry Wood.

Ralph Vaughan Williams' Norfolk Rhapsody No. 2 for large Orchestra.Vaughan Williams originally wrote three Norfolk Rhapsodies with the intention of turning them into a three-movement Norfolk Symphony. This the second rhapsody is a telescoped slow movement and scherzo which has been completed and edited by Stephen Hogger. The first has long been in the repertoire but numbers two and three have not been performed since 1914. The third rhapsody unfortunately did not survive.

This study score marks the first publication of a previously little-known early work for chamber orchestra by Ralph Vaughan Williams. He started composing Harnham Down in 1904 completing the work in 1907. The score has been edited by James Francis Brown and includes an introduction by the editor.

The 1948 film 'Scott of the Antarctic' is well-known for its Vaughan Williams score which he later reworked to create Sinfonia Antartica. Vaughan Williams's original score for the film is now presented in its full unedited form allowing listeners to hear the full grandeur of the composer's original.

Symphony No.3-The Pastoral Symphony premiered on January 26 1922 and somewhat puzzled audiences with its rejection of the established classical themes in favour of a more folk based work. Nevertheless it continues to rise in popularity and is firmly settled amongst Vaughan Williams greatest works. This is the Study Score for Full Orchestra and Solo Soprano or Tenor.

This arrangement of what is probably the best known piece taken from Vaughan Williams\' opera \'Sir John in Love\' may be played just by strings with piano (or harp). The original version of this work for strings 2 flutes and harp (as performed in the concert hall and recorded commercially) is also available in the Concert Classics series no.GMCL128. Misunderstood at its premiere in 1922, the haunting 35-minute elegy is almost entirely quiet and contemplative, though beneath its tranquillity lies a deep sadness. In the second movement a lone trumpet calls over a bleak and desolate landscape whilst the fourth and final movement is framed by a wordless lament for solo soprano. Originally intended as the first piece in a cycle of four impressions entitled 'In the New Forest' Burley Heath was written in 1902 but never finished.The manuscript represents a 168-bar fragment which James Francis Brown the editor of this edition has completed by inserting a recapitulation of the initial material. Marking the first publication of this previously little-known early work this edition also contains an introduction by the editor.
