Liszt F. - Les Preludes And Other Symphonic Poems - Conducteur

[Study Score / Miniature]
Dover Publications
This authoritative edition presents full-score reproductions of three of Liszt...
(+)
This authoritative edition presents full-score reproductions of three of Liszt’s best-known symphonic poems. Les Preludes (Symphonic Poem No.3) grew out of the composer’s unpublished choral setting of Joseph Autran’s poem “The Four Elements”, blending stirring martial music and lovely pastoral themes to make this work the most popular of the symphonic poems. Mazeppa (Symphonic Poem No.6) evokes Victor Hugo’s portrayal of the Cossack leader and the symbolic triumph that comes only after defeat: “He runs, he flies, he falls, and he stands up king!” Heroide Funebre (Symphonic Poem No.8) is the last vestige of the monumental Revolutionary Symphony, planned but never completed, suggesting universal brotherhood: a fine, heroic, dignified funeral march. In these richly sonorous works, Liszt explored the concept of the one-movement “transformation of themes,” an approach to composition that Wagner would carry forward in his development of the leitmotif. Liszt’s expanding chromaticism would be no less influential, anticipating the twentieth century’s embrace of atonality. Frequently performed favourites of audiences around the world, these three works are reprinted from the original Breitkopf & Härtel edition.

(+)
The Bavarian State Library in Munich made a quite sensational discovery in 2007: a previously unknown Lied for Voice (soprano) and Piano by Franz Liszt was found which he had written down himself. The work shows Liszt at hisbest; it was composed in 1843 and dedicated to Count Franz von Pocci from Munich. This was a good enough reason for Henle Publishers to publish the manuscript in the form of a high-quality facsimile which also contains the musicin modern music print and extensive information concerning the fascinating circumstances of its genesis. A true delight for all connoisseurs and lovers of Franz Liszt.

(+)
Best remembered for his extraordinary advancement of Piano technique, Franz Liszt saw himself in quite a different light: as an innovative composer prepared to move beyond convention into uncharted waters. He and Richard Wagner were allies in Zukunftsmusik, the 'music of the future,' a new approach that was liberated from all prescribed rules of musical form. Liszt invented the tone poem, and this work is his most famous example. Inspired by Goethe's great verse drama, A Faust Symphony premiered in 1857. The three-movement work musically depicts the essence of Faust, Gretchen, and Mephistopheles, the characters who drive Goethe's tale. Brilliantly innovative and endlessly fascinating in its transformations of thematic materials, the work has influenced many major composers, including Strauss and Debussy, and remains frequently studied, performed, and recorded. This affordable edition was reproduced from an authoritative text and features an informative Introduction by a renowned expert on Liszt . / Orchestre

The piece for string orchestra Infinite Melody is dedicated to the great shadows...
(+)
The piece for string orchestra Infinite Melody is dedicated to the great shadows in Bayreuth Wagner and Liszt. An evocative miniature like a style study it was requested by youth ensembles participating in the artistic festival in this city. A polyphonic technique involving immanent sounds is used which was also used in The Modal Column. The passage of the melodic relief from one group of instruments to another induces a feeling of perpetual quest. From Wagner and Liszt’s infinite melody a few external characteristic aspects are employed: 1. the grupetto which tends to amplify the importance of a sound and 2. the Auftakt fromthe beginning of each phrase as in Tristan and Isolde At the climax of the piece an impact with a few authentic themes takes place cited from Wagner (Siegfried-Idylle) and Liszt respectively (Faust-Symphonie).

Par SAINT-SAENS CAMILLE. “In this work I gave everything I had to give. […] What I did here I will never do again”. Camille Saint-Saëns was justifiably proud of his Symphony No. 3 in C minor op. 78, dedicated to the memory of Franz Liszt. Like Beethoven’s Ninth, this so-called “Organ Symphony” was commissioned by the Philharmonic Society in London, where itreceived its premiere on 19 May 1886. In this first scholarly-critical edition of the symphony, a great many inconsistencies and mistakes inherent in the previously used edition have been unveiled and corrected.

Saint-Saëns, Camille Symphony no. 3 in C minor op. 78 - Study score to supplement the full score and performance material on sale - Based on ?Camille Saint-Saëns ? Complete Edition of the Instrumental Works? - Detailed Foreword (Ger/Eng/Fr) ?In this work I gave everything I had to give. [?] What I did here I will never do again?. (Camille Saint-Saëns) Camille Saint-Saëns was justifiably proud of his Symphony No. 3 dedicated to the memory of Franz Liszt. Like Beethoven?s Ninth, this so-called ?Organ Symphony? was commissioned by the Philharmonic Society in London where it received its premiere on 19 May 1886. This study score is based on ?Camille Saint-Saëns ? Complete Edition of the Instrumental Works?, Volume I/3.

Légende dramatique en quatre parties-In 1828 Berlioz wrote the 'Huit scènes de Faust'. The work was soon withdrawn but almost twenty years later each of the eight scenes found a place in the Légende dramatique 'La damnation de Faust' dedicated to Franz Liszt. The first part of the 'Damnation' exposes the figure of Faust and has an introductory nature. From the second part onwards the course of action is largely based on Goethe?s drama.Contrasting characters and dramatic effect are of central importance in understanding Berlioz?s musical thought and his compositional process. Magic and fairy tale incantations and ghosts have been the ever-recurring themes ofopera since the Baroque. It is precisely this fantasy in Berlioz's Faust the ?Opéra de Concert en Quatre acts? which comes very close to the spirit of Goethe's presentation.Reliable Piano reduction based on the Urtext of the New Berlioz EditionStraight-forward Piano reduction in the Vocal scoreClear user-friendly layoutFrench original text with German translationFull score (BA5448) and Vocal score (BA5448-90) available for sale performance material (BA5448-72) available for hire

Par MANTOVANI BRUNO. This piece is indeed a tone poem with allusions to Strauss (the orchestral composition Ein Heldenleben), and the theme found in Chamisso's book: Peter Schlemihl's Miraculous Story. The narration is not linear, but rather, metaphorical (in this sense, the model leans more towards Hamlet by Franz Liszt). In fact, the discourse vacillates between luxuriance (symbolising the infinite wealth of Chamisso's hero) and rarefaction, aridity (the growing psychological vacuum of this same hero). Though the language is modern, there are several references in this homage to Strauss (the use of the horns, for example) and above all, a dramaturgy based on contrast. Strauss is a composer who has always obsessed me, in particular for his orchestral hedonism. He greatly influenced Edgar Varèse, who, for me, is a constant reference. It is this composer's sonic opulence, that was, in part, my inspiration for Schlemihl./ Répertoire / Orchestre
