Violino piccolo pitch notation - notated the way it sounds-Violin solo part sounds at pitch (F major).Includes original version of the Sinfonia BWV 1046a.Authoritative Urtext edition of Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No.1 in F major BWV 1046.The six Brandenburg Concertos BWV 1046-1051 prized jewels of the world's musical heritage were written in 1721 during Bach’s appointment in Cöthen.Of the six works Bach originally wrote earlier versions of numbers 1 and 5 which differ not only with regard to articulation but also at times different tones different rhythms instrumentation and of course form. These Urtext publications [BA5201-BA 5206] taken from the New Bach Edition now give performers the possibility to play these earlier versions perhaps even along side the version known today. In the earlier version of Concerto No.1 (BWV 1046a) which according to the editor of the edition Heinrich Besseler seems to have been Bach’s favorite among the six there is no violino piccolo part to be found and the violin concerto-like 3rd movement as well as the Polonaise movement are also absent. In nearly every bar the articulation in one instrument or another differs from the later version; for example the 16th-note slurs in bars 1 and 2 of the horns are missing in the later score the oboe slurs and trills in m.12 are also not to be found. The later version has the cello seperated from the continuo which means that the 16ths in m.7 are not to be played by the Violone grosso.

Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus The Magic Flute K. 620 Facsimile of Mozart's autograph score The Seven Great Operas in Facsimile Editions of Mozart?s Autograph Scores ?Idomeneo?, ?Die Entführung aus dem Serail?, ?Le nozze di Figaro?, ?Don Giovanni?, ? Così fan tutte ?, ?Die Zauberflöte ?, ?La clemenza di Tito? ? Mozart?s seven great operas, his brilliant contribution to music theatre and world culture, are unequalled in their depth of human characterisation and musical expression. Through happy coincidence, all seven opera scores have survived almost complete in Mozart?s manuscript. The Packard Humanities Institute (PHI, Los Altos , California ) has now embarked on producing a facsimile edition of the seven autograph scores. Mozart scholars, libraries and of course all lovers of Mozart?s stage works now have the opportunity of acquiring these priceless manuscripts in flawless reproductions. At the same time, all risks about preserving Mozart?s legacy for the world of music are taken care of. The Packard Humanities Institute (PHI) charitable foundation, known for its philanthropic programmes in the arts and sciences, has forged an ideal cooperation for the Mozart project. Under the scholarly direction of an editorial board (Ulrich Konrad , David Packard, Wolfgang Rehm , Christoph Wolff; General editor Dietrich Berke) the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg and the libraries where Mozart?s manuscripts are held are working together with the Packard Humanities Institute. The production of the volumes is exquisite, for the digitalization of the manuscripts has been undertaken using the latest technology, which allows for an astounding level of authenticity and precision in detail. The printing follows the uncompromisingly high standards demanded by the edition. All seven volumes include essays on the history of literature and ideas by Hendrik Birus , Hans Joachim Kreutzer and Robert Miller as well as musicological introductions by leading Mozart scholars in German and English. The facsimile edition will be distributed by Bärenreiter- Verlag . - consolidation of Mozart manuscripts held in different places - highest level of precision in reproduction and authenticity of colour through use of the latest technology - unique offer thanks to project sponsorship by the Packard Humanities Institute (Los Altos, California) Precision in reproduction thanks to cutting edge technology In preparing the manuscripts for reproduction, equipment was used in line with the highest technical standards currently available. Mozart?s original manuscripts of the seven operas are held by several libraries. For five of the operas, the different acts have even ended up in different libraries following World War II. Thus, the autograph of Act I of ? Così fan tutte ? is in the Jagiellonian Library in Kraków and the second act in the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin ? Preußischer Kulturbesitz . In order to achieve a uniformly high level of precision in reproduction and authenticity of colour both within a work and for all seven editions, the use of the same technical equipment in all the different places was a prerequisite. Specialist from the Salzburg firm ? Kirchberger Photography? were employed, were provided with the latest equipment by the Packard Humanities Institute and also given special additional training in the modern technology by specialists in the USA. Proofs of each edition were compared with the original in each location and improved until the likeness could not be bettered in all details. Mozart?s music and text notation is reproduced extremely clearly, and even those places where Mozart corrected or had rubbed out marks he had already made, appear in these editions in a previously unmatched transparency.

(+)
Herrmann wanted to write a musical portrait of his friend and colleague Alfred Hitchcok so choose motifs from the movie The Trouble With Harry one of Hitchcockâ??s more personal and humorous films. This single-movement work for Orchestra employs some of the more familiar elements of Herrmannâ??s compositional style: short musical phrases repeated and then repeated again in other positions sharp use of dynamics among them. From the first note the creepiness begins.Bernard Herrmann was among the very greatest of all composers of music for cinema and there are many who avow that he was the greatest of all. A very short list of the films for which this award-winning composercreated soundtracks includes Citizen Kane The Man Who Knew Too Much Vertigo Jason and Argonauts Fahrenheit 451 Obsession and Taxi Driver. He had a long and fertile association with Alfred Hitchcock during the most productive period of Hitchcockâ??s career and with Orson Welles from the time of the Mercury Theatre on the Air. In addition to his conducting and composing work for the entertainment world Herrmann wrote concert pieces including a symphony opera and cantata.

(+)
Symphony No. 9 in D minor Op. 125 Facsimile Score. With his ninth symphony, Beethoven ventured into new musical dimensions. In the final movement, soloists and choir join forces with the orchestra and Schiller?s ?Ode to Joy? becomes a global aspiration, a declaration: ?Alle Menschen werden Brüder ! / All mankind becomes brothers.? In his commentary the great Beethoven scholar Lewis Lockwood describes the plea which Beethoven wanted to deliver at that time with this work and how views of this have changed over the centuries. Jonathan Del Mar, a renowned editor of Beethoven?s works, comments on noteworthy passages in the autograph manuscript and allows the reader to share in the composer?s working process.,br>Already the large-format paper which Beethoven used for some passages makes the large forces clear. Cuts, sometimes reversed later, show how he wrestled with the final version of the musical text and refined it right down to the last detail. The history of the autograph manuscript reflects an episode in German history: after storage in various places because of the war, the major parts were returned to Berlin but were initially divided by the Berlin Wall and only reunited in 1990. Martina Rebmann who is the Director of the Music Department at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin traces this story. In 1972 the main theme of the last movement was chosen by the Council of Europe as the European anthem and in 1985 it was adopted by the European Community as its official anthem. In 2001 the manuscript was listed in UNESCO?s Memory of the World Register. For the first time the facsimile presents all the parts of the manuscript including pages preserved in Bonn and Paris as well as the trombone and contrabassoon parts. The first edition (2010) was awarded with the German Music Edition Prize ?Best Edition? 2011.

Parts are available on hire: hire@ewh.dk Programme note Morpheus in the Greek mythology is the most powerful of the Oneroi the gods of dreams. He is the one who sends us our dreams and he may appear to us within the dreams in disguise. Analogous to the logic of dreams in Morpheus everything is interwoven as chains of associations appear to logically lead us from one line of thought to another. Everything seems strangelyfamiliar. But the logic is treacherous and we already feel it may only be valid within the dream. Nothing that appears similar is actually ever really the same. Half awakening we struggle to hold on to a vanishing world we felt we were on the verge of understanding but which we already know will eventually escape us when we fully awake. Everything remains a mystery until the end. The seven movements/dreamscapes are: Vortex Trees and Walls Escher (Toccata) Crystal Into the Cloud Non-Euclid Arctica

for Orchestra Full Score. Par PENG-PENG GONG. “In celebration of the 40th anniversary of China-U.S. diplomatic relations and in hope to support the promotion of Chinese culture abroad, Peng-Peng Gong's (b. 1992) Tenth Symphony, subtitled 'Peking Fantasy' (Op. 55) was co-commissioned by the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017. The world premiere of the 2018 original version was presented by the SPO in April of the same year in Shanghai, while the world premiere of the 2019 revised version was presented by the Philadelphia Orchestra in January at its home venue with the combined forces of both orchestras side-by-side. Inspired by the artistic power of Peking Opera ?the crowning heritage of Chinese traditional performing arts, the symphony strives to translate the emotional and philosophical experience of the art form for international audiences and to explore the Western orchestra's expressive abilities in capturing the Eastern spirit. The 2018 original version ran as long as 76 minutes, before the composer extensively revised the score down to 40 and presented it in a single movement without pause. The work is scored for a huge orchestra of over 100 players. Main materials that inspired the music are from the traditional Peking Opera repertory: The Drunken Beauty, Farewell My Concubine, In Pursuit of the General, and The Chancellor and the Advisor (lit. Cao Cao and Yang Xiu). 'Peking Fantasy' is in a sweet, direct musical language ...It's a work of highly original sounds presented in a series of vivid episodes.” -Peter Dobrin, The Philadelphia Inquirer Please note: this item will be printed at the time of ordering and will ship as soon as possible, usually within 2-3 weeks. / Date parution : 2022-01-18/ Répertoire / Orchestre

Composer's Notes:This piece written during the winter months of 2000-2001 consists of one movement Allegro con fuoco in which an old score is revisited raided and ravished by its composer. The earlier music hadbeen written in the mid-fifties for a stage work Maratona di Danza and for its maker the director Luchino Visconti.Elements from the older piece reappear on and off like shadows under the surface of new ones like more orless vague memories images of young people suffering pain and despair in their struggle for survival in a barbaric pitiless modern world. My new composition is a kind of concerto for very large symphony orchestra an étude onconstant and often rapid musical changes of mood and colours built on a variety of rhythmic figures incessantly and brutally pushing the music ahead. Sometimes it is as though voices are weeping sometimes crying out loud withpain with anxiety under the cold hearted pressure of an overwhelming violence. Hans Werner Henze Commissioned on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of das neue werk Hamburg. Premiered on 29th June 2001. Duration 15minutes.

Poul Ruder's Wind-Drumming for Wind Quintet and 4 Percussionists (1979/85). Parts are for hire: hire@ewh.dk Programme NoteWind-Drumming was written in 1979 on a commission from The Danish Percussion Ensemble. The piece is a clash of two kinds of sound-associations; the mystic exotic impact of Latin-American drumming and the more well dressed reputation of Western concert-instruments in this case a wind-quintet (w. electric flute). The two instrumental camps either melt into one soft humming ritual or are split wide apart the winds tearing their way through the undergrowth ofrainforest-drumming. There is more than one way of getting on to WIND-DRUMMING: obviously it is about the confrontation of two incongruent ways of living a lament on the damage done to the tropical rainforests of the world by modern civilisation. One can hear it plainly as a direct rhythm-show a downright number or a joyous homage to the most exiting kind of folkloristic music at all: the carnal spell of the Brazilian Samba. Poul Ruders

Symphony No.11 reflects the work and struggle love dance and play mystical imagination and lament for death all the stages of a man's life. The seven rituals are all very different and alternate between relatively conventional scoring for strings and winds and some really unusual writing for full orchestra with extensive percussion.

Tributes - Album For Strings (1994-95) by Per Nørgård. Parts are available on hire: hire@ewh.dk I: FOUR OBSERVATIONS – FROM AN INFINTE RAPPORT – hommage a Bartok (1995) II: OUT OF THIS WORLD – hommage a Lutoslawski (1994) III: VOYAGE INTO THE BROKEN SCREEN - hommage a Sibelius (1995). Programme note “TRIBUTES – album for strings” (1994-95) includes three hommages which might also be performed separately. The shared point of departure was the hommage to three major composers of the 20th century – Bartok Lutoslawski and Sibelius. In FOUR OBSERVATIONS the hommage is to Bartok (on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death 1995). Hungarian Radio asked me to write a piece in his honor but apart from the very last unison string figure which is - I think - very Bartokian the work in no way intends to evoke even less to imitate the musical style of the great Hungarian master. This would be an act of impudence against a composer who was such an exceptionally integrated personality and who has himself shown (in 'Mikrokosmos') the worthy way to pay a personal tribute to highly respected colleagues: In 'Hommage á J.S.B.' and 'Hommage à R. Sch.' Bela Bartok composes in his own manner but lets the music reflect some qualities of the said composers as perceived in Bartok's mind. In a similar way my 'Observations from an infinite Rapport' reflects as well the timeless proportions of the 'golden section' - which seem to have inspired Bartok so much - in his great respect for perceptive structural patterns. 'OUT OF THIS WORLD' was composed at the request of a group of Lutoslawski's friends as a symbol of parting to a great composer and a noble man. The title quotes a poem by Yunus Emre the Turkish 14th century poet. The opening line of the poem 'Biz dünyadan' reads as follows in English translation: 'We are on the way out of this world we

Pastorale héroïque in three acts - Paperback-The genre pastorale h?ro?que is a legacy of the grand si?cle of Louis XIV. However in the 18th century it only rarely reached the stage. But in the second period of his career Rameau turned to this genre again: the more unconventional world of shepherds and nymphs gave him greater freedom in terms of dramatic action stage d?cor and musical virtuosity compared to the trag?die lyrique. This is demonstrated to masterly effect in Acanthe Et C?phise (1751) where even the ballets are fully integrated into the plot. This edition contains all the instrumental numbers from this popular pastorale in a newcritical edition by Nathalie Berthon-Blivet. Performance material available for hire. Orchestral work commissioned by the BBC and premiered by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Andrew Davis The Barbican Hall November 1992.Quoting Lindberg: 'After having written a Piano Concerto in 1991preceded by three works for different orchestral effectives (Kinetics Marea and Joy) I felt that I had come to an end with a certain musical expression and also compositional technique. All these works were based upon anextended chaconne principle with chord chains cycling around undergoing constant transformation and being articulated in a very gestural way. The musical paradox and evidently also the challenge was the discrepancy between abrick-like method expressed in a world of gestures (with all difficulties involved in conceiving music out of phrases) aiming at a continuity in terms of progression and development. After the Piano Concerto in the autumn of1991 I strongly felt that I couldn't continue in that direction anymore. I started to work on a project called Corrente for 16 players as a study for the full orchestra version entitled Corrente II.In order to bring theharmonic and rhythmic world closer to each other I abandoned the chaconne principle and based the harmony on different scale aggregates. By combining these scales and by filtering or by enhancing them with additional pitchesbased on more acoustically oriented views of the scales by considering them as partials of virtual fundamentals I was able to work in a rich harmonic world without actually having to do harmonic transformations and progressions. The rhythmic material was based on pattern figures with a rather kaleidoscopic approach of repetition and variation.By combining these pattern figures and scales aggregates I wanted to give the musical expression a 'narrative'sense of streams and directions moving around in different orchestral constellations.Corrente II for symphony orchestra is based on the same material as the piece for chamber orchestra. As the timbral palette and the mass

The chamber music works are among Hindemith's most successful instrumental works of the 1920s. At the world premiere of 'Chamber Music No. 1' the audience even demanded a repetition of the third and fourth movements. However the title of the series of works consisting of seven compositions altogether is misleading: The individual pieces rather have concertante soloistic features. No. 1 is characterised by 'instruments' like a can filled with sand and a siren as well as the rich use of percussion. The scores are based on Vol. IV/2 (PHA 402) of the Hindemith Complete Edition edited by Giselher Schubert.

Symphony No. 6 'At The End Of Day' (1997-99) for Orchestra by Per Nørgård. Programme note: ”… with the Lord a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day” (New Testament 2 Peter 3:8) My SYMPHONY NO. 6 was commissioned by the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra to be premiered at the millenium 2000. The subtitle AT THE END OF THE DAY can be understood literally or it can mean “when all is added up”. However in my opinion nothing ever quite adds up there is always “something” missing any ending will be provisional ... This symphony appears to end only a few minutes into the first movement the first passage as the music fades away to almost-silence after a start of flying colours. But then there is still “something” a small motive (first heard in the initial sound-waves) which reappears hesitant but persistent and this embryo is what leads on the musical progression. An agitated section of many instrumental voices comes next until all the voices become obsessed with the same phrase a see-saw motive based on thirds. This section evolves into almost martial ferocity when broken off by a tutti descent into an extreme bass-world (a bass-world which actually permeates the whole symphony emplyoing instruments that I have never used before: double-bass tuba double-bass trombone double-bass clarinet and bass flute). The second movement the second passage apparently takes off where the first passage ended but now the events are more ambiguous and the same music may be perceived as fast-moving one moment and slow-moving the next. This section is a kind of passacaglia the characteristic baroque bass-variation. Without a break follows the third and last passage in a

It is uncertain whether the chorale theme of 'Haydn Variations' is actually by Haydn. It is certain however that the Variations are characteristic of Brahms' mature orchestral style and his strict sense of form. With 'Academic Ouverture' the composer expressed his thanks to the University of Breslau for giving him an honorary doctorate. Although the 'brooding' 'Tragic Ouverture' which had originally been intended for this purpose seemed no longer appropriate to Brahms for that occasion it has always been a resounding success since its world premiere.

Shostakovich’s fifteenth symphony differs substantially in many ways from his other late symphonies. The eleventh (1957) subtitled The Year 1905 and the twelfth (1960) subtitled The Year 1917 are both programmatic symphonies relating to political and historical events within the year of which they are subtitled. The next two symphonies are sung texts with vocal and/or choral parts: thirteenth (1962) and fourteenth (1969) symphonies. With the Symphony No.15 In A Op.141 Shostakovich’s last foray in the genre the composer returned to a purely instrumental and non-programmatic composition which inhabits a purely emotional andintellectual plane quite removed from the world of politics and history.Available here is the pocket or study score of Shostakovich’s last symphony the Symphony No.15 in A Op.141. This is an excellent Sikorski edition score and is ideal for study and perusal purposes.

Symphony no. 9 in E minor op. 95 New World
- Groundbreaking Urtext edition taking new sources into consideration
- Offers solutions for controversial musical questions
- With an informative Foreword (Eng/Cz/Ger) and a detailed Critical Commentary (Eng)
The ?New World? Symphony, a jewel of the symphonic repertoire, is finally available in a dependable scholarly-critical edition.
Yet again Jonathan Del Mar has managed to untangle a complex network of surviving sources, some of which have never been taken into account before. Among them are several musical examples in Dvorák?s hand known to have been used in a lecture he held at Columbia University shortly after the première given by the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Anton Seidl.
Del Mar thus sheds light, for example, on the frequently debated rhythm of the horn entrance in measure 4 of the opening movement and illuminates Dvorák?s vague instructions on the use of mutes in movement 2. / Partitions classique / Ensemble et orchestre / Conducteur / BARENREITER

(+)
Oper In Drei Bildern-This masterpiece composed by Erich Wolfgang Korngold when he was only 23 was one of the great stage successes of the 1920s and 30s before being removed from theatre schedules by the National Socialists. Rediscovered in the 1970s it has enjoyed continuing popularity ever since. The libretto was compiled by the composer?s father the music critic Julius Korngold writing under the pseudonym ?Paul Schott? a combination of the name of the protagonist and the publishing house. A vivacious theatre group comes to liven up the gloomy city of Bruges (here a symbol of death) and the widower Paul is forced to decide between the past and the present.Korngold was fascinated by this symbolic plot and created an iridescent orchestral score washed in vivid colours. A variety of operatic devices are intermingled as if viewed through a kaleidoscope: opulent melodic arias advanced harmonies psychoanalytic profundity and cinematic transitions oscillating between reality and dream worlds guarantee the continuing modernity of this work up to the present day.
