Malcolm Arnold's one act ballet score Homage To The Queen was commissioned in 1953 by the Royal Opera House Covent Garden to celebrate the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The ballet was conceived and choreographed by Frederick Ashton with designs by Oliver Messel and was danced by the full company of the Sadler's Wells Ballet with an illustrious cast that comprised Nadia Nerina as Queen of the Earth Violetta Elvin as Queen of the Waters Beryl Grey as Queen of Fire and Margot Fonteyn as Queen of the Air. The conductor of the ROH orchestra was Robert Irving. Homage to the Queen was first performed on the night of the coronation 2June1953.One of the towering musical figures of the 20th century Sir Malcolm Arnold has a remarkable catalogue of major concert works to his credit including nine symphonies seven ballets two operas one musical over twenty concertos two string quartets and music for brass band and wind band. He has also written over 132 film scores and among these are some of the finest works ever composed for the medium: Bridge On The River Kwai Inn Of The Sixth Happiness Hobson's Choice Whistle Down The Wind and David Copperfield.

Caroline Mathilde Act I (Concert Suite)-The story centres on the English princess Caroline Mathilde (1751-1775) sister of George III who at the age of 15 was sent to Denmark to marry the 17-year-old eccentric and schizophrenic Danish King Christian VII. The balletportrays her unhappy marriage the King's growing madness and her fatal love-affair with Struensee the King's influential physician which leads to their arrest his execution and her exile at the age of 20 separated from hertwo young children. In keeping with the period and perhaps also with the traditions of Romantic ballet the music is relatively simple in harmony and form and most of the action is conveyed in set-piece dances. The suite which consists essentially of the second half of Act I begins with one of these a bristling interplay of wind and string ensembles in D major portraying in the ballet a curious nuptial game with the king and princess on movablepedestals. The slow music that follows has to do with the king's healing by Dr. Struensee and the new queen's unquiet reverie (oboe and cor anglais solos). Then the suite like the act is capped by a pair of pas-de-deux thefirst savage and bizarre for the royal couple the second rich and passionate for the queen and the miracle-working doctor.Score (miniature). Ralph Vaughan Williams' Flos Campi for SATB wordless chorus Viola solo and Orchestra. Part for Viola.This work is one of Vaughan Williams's most enigmatic pieces. Although the six movements all borrow their titles from the Old Testament's Song of Solomon the Chorus never articulates a single word. Instead it serves as a section of the Orchestra creating an elegant vocal texture and backdrop to the Viola's haunting solo lines.Flos Campi was premiered in October 1925 by the violist Lionel Tertis singers from the RCM and the Queen's Hall Orchestra directed by Sir Henry Wood.

Peter Maxwell Davies' Symphony No. 9 for Orchestra. Study score.This work is dedicated to Her Majesty The Queen in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee. It received its premiere in June 2012 bythe RLPO in Liverpool conducted by Vasily Petrenko.In addition to the Orchestra the symphony calls for a virtuoso Brass Quintet.

The harmonic model for this piece is based on a subdivision of pitches in primary and secondary notes in principle any chord can be viewed from it's structural qualities including interval content and symmetry but it might also be conceived from a more acoustical point of view.The parallel basis for this work is a sequence of 12-tone chords repeated as a chaconne every chord has it's Alter-Ego an overtone series the fundamentals of which together form a bass line. By articulating the cycle differently with always varied diagonal paths between two layers Lindberg has aimed to give the music some direction despite it's vague repetitive structure.Workfor Orchestra premiered at the Queen Elizabeth Hall London by the London Sinfonietta under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen April 1990.

Par REIMANN ARIBERT. Aribert Reimann?s ?Trilogie lyrique? is based on three plays by Maurice Maeterlinck: In L? Intruse, a family is sitting at the table with their blind grandfather. They are waiting for the doctor to arrive and tend to his daughter who is lying ill in bed after having given birth: her new-born son has not yet made a single sound. The old man senses that something is wrong due to the uneasy atmosphere in the room. ?Who is sitting in our midst?? he asks. He is the only one who can see the presence of death. Intérieur: Once again a family is gathered round the table in the evening, but this time we observe the action from outside, looking through the window with the grandfather and a stranger: no sound can be heard. Outside the house, the stranger reports that the eldest daughter has drowned and that he has pulled her out of the river. Although the corpse is already being carried through the village to the family, the grandfather cannot bring himself to destroy this idyll. La Mort de Tintagiles: The young Tintagiles is told a story about a mysterious castle and the aged queen who has all potential heirs to the throne murdered. His siblings sense that Tintagiles has been summoned to the castle to be murdered, but nobody openly expresses this fact. This piece is to be performed without a conductor with an emphasis of the soloistic qualities of a group of players.Space Play was commissioned by the Serge Kossevizky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress and is dedicated to the memory of Serge and Natalie Koussevitzky. It was First performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall by the London Sinfonietta in October 1974.

Things To Come was based on a novel by HG Wells set at the end of a world war which had not yet happened and is esteemed as a prescient and beautifully logical work of cinematic art. Bliss’s music is a dramatic lushly Orchestrated work of romantic modernism.The career of British composer Arthur Bliss followed a dramatic arc from his early reputation as an enfant terrible to his tenure in maturity of the office of Director of Music at the BBC and Master of the Queen’s Music. This versatile and prolific composer wrote more than 140 works for every combination of instruments but is perhaps best known for his score for this early science fiction classic.

Vocal Score-Nyman's 2011 The Prologue to ‘Dido and Aeneas’ is a prologue to Henry Purcell's opera on a libretto by Nahum Tate. The libretto is based on Book IV of Virgil's Aeneid. It recountsthe love of Dido Queen of Carthage for the Trojan hero Aeneas and her despair when he abandons her. This edition of the work is scored for SATB with Piano reduction.

John Buller was born in London in 1927. He enjoyed a musical childhood but it was not until this thirties after a career as an architectural surveyor that his began to concentrate on his musical career. In 1975 he became Composer-in-Residence at the University of Edinburgh as holder of the visiting Forman Fellowship. In 1978 he was awarded an Arts Council Bursary and in 1985-6 he was Composer-in-Residence at Queens University Belfast. He died in 2004.
