from the Opera 'Tannhauser'-During his time in Weimar (1848 1861) Liszt developed a then entirely new organ style which stands out for both orchestral and pianistic elements. Together with the choirmaster Alexander Wilhelm Gottschalg (1827 1908) from Tiefurt he regularly initiated so-called 'organ conferences'. And it was at the suggestion of Gottschalg that the present arrangement of the Pilgrim's Choir from the opera 'Tannhäuser' was written. With his version for organ Liszt by means of this example laid the foundations for the (not always undisputed) tradition extending to the present day of organ transcriptions from the operas of Wagner. 'Organistic' elements in the Pilgrims' Choir are theclassical chorale theme the solemn 'sacred' atmosphere of the solemn tempo as well as the expressive cantability. The linear intensification from the antiphonal-organ-like piano dolce of the beginning to the 'full organ' can be realized in a convincing manner with an orchestrally conceived three-manual organ with the sensitive use of the swell box and the successive seamless build-up of the crescendo pedal being of particular significance. Important repertoire piece marking the 200th birthday of Richard Wagner in 2013.

Alba is one of Bennett’s serialism-tinged works that also touches on medieval rhythmic modes. He based the work on the Tema Seriale from Cantata Academica by Benjamin Britten to whom Alba is dedicated. It is a demanding and rewarding piece for performer and listener.Composer performer and arranger Richard Rodney Bennett was internationally respected for his serious music and many award-winning film scores (Murder on the Orient Express Nicholas and Alexandra) as well as his works for children and his religious pieces. In addition this markedly versatile musician frequently performed as a jazz pianist. On his move to the United States the two sponsors for his green card(work permit) were Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.

Vous apprendrez petit à petit à piloter ce vaisseau, à explorer ses possibilités et à jouer avec les multiples sonorités qu'il offre. 'L'orgue est le roi des instruments' disait Mozart, qui avait bien compris la dimension infinie de ses ressources. Vous voyagerez d'une atmosphère à une autre au fil du temps. Des petits exercices vous familiariseront avec ses spécificités. Même si l'orgue est un instrument comme les autres, il a une place bien à part. Souvent perché sous les voûtes des édifices religieux, il recèle de multiples secrets et d'histoires passionnantes. Egalement présent dans de nombreuses salles de concert, il dialogue aussi avec le monde d'aujourd'hui. Vous appréhenderez la distorsion spectrale, la réverbération - les 'notes-hérisson' ou les 'tenues' vous aideront à y parvenir. Vous apprendrez également à faire dialoguer les différentes sonorités de l'orgue. Les pièces 'décollages' ont été écrites pour vous 'propulser' sur les différents claviers de ce 'monstre'. Prendre plaisir à jouer une courte pièce et à la faire écouter à d'autres est aussi le but de cette méthode. La musique est faite pour être partagée et l'orgue, même s'il semble un peu solitaire et lointain parfois, permet des échanges inimaginables entre musiciens. A vous de les découvrir... L'enseignant veillera à ce que l'élève étudie simultanément les exercices et une petite pièce récréative, et ce afin de rendre plus agréable l'apprentissage. Je suis bien conscient que la majorité des élèves ne pourront s'exercer sur un instrument à plusieurs claviers. Aussi pour les pièces 'décollages', l'élève devant son instrument personnel, soulèvera les mains et simulera le mouvement afin de créer un automatisme et ainsi pouvoir le reproduire sur l'orgue. Des petites annotations ponctueront votre parcours dans la méthode et vous guideront, mais ne remplaceront jamais les conseils avisés d'un professeur. A partir d'un certain niveau, ce dernier pourra 'piocher' une pièce dans l'anthologie, située à la fin du recueil, afin d'agrémenter la progression de son élève. It was given its first performance there by Charles Harrison on the 17 June 2017. It lasts some 4 minutes andproves to be a thoroughly engaging piece in her customary refined idiom. It is in three main sections with a graded increase of tempo throughout. Thematic material is presented at the start cantabile. The central sectionprovides an energetic development marked animato leading to the conclusion molto mosso which gives the theme as in the opening but in augmentation. Throughout I feel an orchestral sense of colour and interrelationships inthe music - and have found it delightful to play. A modest two manual and pedal instrument with some contrasted quiet colours available will suffice and the technical demands are by no means severe. A delightful addition to therepertoire of short self-contained delightful pieces. - Organists' Review Duration: Approx 4 minutes.
