Composer and organist, Joseph Bonnet (1884-1944) is considered one of the most major French pipe organ players. It is no surprise, therefore, that his Concert Variations for Organ are very well informed. Following his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, Bonnet took over as concert organist at the institution. Concert Variations for Organ was compiled in 1906, soon after his graduation. The work begins with a helpful index of the organ registrations and performance directions. Concert Variations begins with a virtuosic, cadenza-like theme in E minor. Following this, four variations are heard, all containing contrast in organ sound, tonality and exploited melody and rhythm. For all advanced, aspiring organists, Bonnet's Concert Variations is an essential addition to the repertoire.

Robert Saxton 's Passacaglia On The Name John McCabe for Organ. Commissioned by George Vass for a concert in celebration of the life and work of John McCabe CBE. First performed in Faversham Church, Kent, on 28th June 2015 by Edward Kemp-Luck. Duration: 6 mins ca. A review in the June 2016 edition of Organist's Review calls this piece a beautifully produced work that features the pleasing disorientation of false relations and is as inventive as it is impressive. A similarly glowing review in the August-October edtion of The Organ magazine calls this piece a very impressive short work indeed; brilliantly imagines and written for the instrument...one can only urge thismusic on all recital organists - it is a splendid piece, and would surely make a counterpart to an original McCabe organ work in the same programme - the Johannes-Partita , especially.

As well as 20 organ sonatas and seven collections of stand-alone organ pieces with opus numbers, Rheinberger composed a whole range of smaller works for organ methods or organ collections for his favorite instrument, mainly at the request of colleagues and friends. The Prelude in G major by Nikolaus Bruhns arranged by Rheinberger in 1882 specifically “for concert performance†shows Rheinberger as an editor skilled at “recreating†older works. He added individual voices or chords to the original composition, and occasionally restructured the part-writing – an interesting version for performing on a late 19th-century organ.Separate edition from Supplementary Volume 3 of the Rheinberger Complete Edition.

Edited by the Deutscher Musikrat (German Music Council) with Richard Mailander and Kord MichaelisCatholic and Protestant churches are familiar with the tradition that in times of crisis, new works are composed to comfort the faithful, and are performed in worship. Following in this tradition, the project Orgelmusik in Zeiten von Corona (Organ Music in Times of Corona) was devised. 17 new compositions were commissioned which reflect Corona times, creatively confront the past and the present, and will enrich the repertoire of organ music in a lasting way.The 17 compositions depict a wide range of styles including avant-garde, jazz and classical, and some refer to music from previous eras and church music traditions. They are conceived for different levels of difficulty, are for 2 or 3-manual organs, and last between four and ten minutes. They are particularly suitable for concerts, but can also be played in church services.* 17 thematic reflections on the Corona pandemic: on the horsemen of the apocalypse, the Coeur bleu, the thunder of time, timelines, trust and confidence, and many more* compositions by Timo Bocking, Kathrin A. These trios for organ are wonderfully versatile: they can be used as teaching pieces as well as works for the worship service or for concert. Mr. Martinson has stated in his preface that he conceived these short works as a 20th century equivalent of the Ten Trios of Josef Rheinberger. The pedal parts are graded in difficulty and can be extracted as pedal exercises. The pieces can be used as exercises in touch and registration on the mechanical action organ. The trios are remarkably varied in their melodic and rhythmic invention and use the full range of color on the organ. Great repertoire for organ students and concert organists.

Oskar Merikanto (1868-1924) was Finland's first Finnish-speaking organ virtuoso and the founder of the Finnish organ school. His compositions for organ remain at the core of Finnish organ repertoire, besides being an integral part of our cultural history: some of them reflect important events in Finnish music or society at large. Merikanto was an innovator. His organ works were the earliest extensive concert pieces written in Finland that demanded high technical proficiency and made use of the most recent developments in organ building. This critical edition of works for organ by Oskar Merikanto was edited by Jan Lehtola D.Mus., organist and Merikanto scholar.

Flor Peeters, born in Belgium in 1903, is one of the most important organists and organ composers of the 20th century. After completing his studies at the famous Lemmens Institute in Mechelen, he worked there as a teacher of organ and improvisation before becoming professor at and director of the Royal Flemish Conservatoire of Antwerp. Until his death in 1986, Peeters gave concerts all around the world, held numerous master classes and received several awards and prizes for his achievements as a composer, organist and teacher. In his successful three-volume educational work 'Ars Organi', Peeters combines theoretical knowledge and practical exercises on all aspects of organ playing, starting with basic information on the instrument, manual and pedal exercises, and two-part manual and pedal playing. While Vol. 2 contains exercises on three-part playing, Vol. 3 contains exercises on four and five-part playing as well as studies on demanding trio playing. Each learning stage is accompanied by pedal exercises and tips on articulation, touch, interpretation, registration and organ specifications - a valuable compendium for every organist.

Carson Cooman is surely one of the most exciting and versatile contemporary composers in the USA. Born in New York in 1982, he has already written over 1,200 works. Many of these are compositions for organ - the instrument which Cooman, himself a concert organist, feels a particular affinity towards. A selection of these organ works is now available in this publication, including freely-composed preludes, chorale preludes, and festive and quieter pieces, meditative in style. The compositions are in an extended tonal framework and are of moderate difficulty. A superb addition to the repertoire both for concerts and worship!

Josef Gabriel Rheinberger dedicated his 9th Organ Sonata (composed in May 1885) to Alexandre Guilmant, the indefatigable concertizing virtuoso who had already given the first Paris performance of Rheinberger's 1st Organ Concerto (in F major, op. 137). With opulent harmonies, conspicuously frequent tempo changes, and chords which are a true delight when played on a Cavaille-Coll organ, the rhapsodic Fantasie at the beginning of the 3rd movement certainly lives up to its name. The separate edition is taken from the Rheinberger Complete Edition.

Bela Bartok composed Dance Suite in 1923 for the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Hungary's capital through the unification of Buda, Obuda, and Pest. It soon became one of his most popular orchestral works, and in 1925 he arranged it for piano solo. Adam Tabajdi completed the organ version of Dance Suite in 2019/20, and recorded it on the Kern organ of Sapporo's Kitara Concert Hall later that year. His transcription was inspired by the composer's own version for piano, exploiting the alternative solutions offered by the ''orchestral'' timbres of the organ, with its manuals and pedals. The ideal instrument for the present version is an expansive, eclectic style organ with at least three manuals. This flamboyant arrangement requires great virtuosity, stamina, and creativity from the performer. Adam Tabajdi (b. 1993) is an outstanding young Hungarian organist. Alongside the music of J. S. Bach, his repertoire includes Liszt, and Franck, as well as twentieth-century works, with a special focus on Messiaen, Ligeti, and Florentz. He is a committed performer of contemporary music, but he also feels a close connection with the works of old masters such as Sweelinck, Weckmann, and Couperin. In 2021 he won first prize in the Toulouse International Organ Competition, and in 2022 he was awarded the Junior Prima Award.
