John Stanley's 30 Voluntaries - published in three collections as op. 5, 6, and 7 - are amongst the best-known organ works of the 18th century. These compositions in free style were met with great acclaim by his contemporaries. The first volume, published in 1748, immediately achieved classic status and encouraged other composers to write similar collections. The op. 5 collection is now published in an up-to-date Urtext edition by Carus, based on the first printed edition and a 1785 edition consulted for comparison. The pieces, of easy to medium difficulty, are for manuals (and can alternatively also be played on the harpsichord), and mainly comprise two movements in the sequence slow - fast. Rhythmic energy, richness of color through the use of solo registers such as cornet and trumpet, dialog between the manuals with multiple echo effects - these are the characteristics of these wonderful compositions, which are also suitable for use in worship.

Trilogy on B-A-C-H (2017) uses as its musical material a familiar four-note theme: the letters B-A-C-H (the last name of Johann Sebastian Bach) treated as a musical motive: B-flat, A, C, B-natural (H in German note naming). Starting with Bach himself, this theme has been used by a truly enormous number of composers over the centuries. Most B-A-C-H themed works (at least those for organ), tend to be extremely contrapuntal, likely taking their cue from much of Bach's own organ music. This piece explicitly goes in the other direction and use the theme primarily motivically/melodically and as a generating force for the kind of mixed modality that is typical of Cooman's music. The first movement is an energetic march. The second movement is a lyric meditation containing both an arioso and a short quasi-passacaglia, in which the B-A-C-H motive repeats slowly in the pedals. The last movement is a free fantasia: the motive appears both in chorale-like long notes and as a fast, turning figure. Instrumentation: Organ Duration: 12' Composed: 2017 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Antti Auvinen (b. 1974) composed Singel Excelsis in 2012 using material from an earlier work for three organs. He finds fascinating the rhythmic characteristics of the organ: Many of the vibrations and rhythmic fluctuations derived from the overtone series are extremely interesting. Also the natural virtuosity of the instrument is utterly fascinating. In fast passages the rhythmic accuracy needs very quick attack. A slower attack on the other hand makes it possible to turn the attention to gestures and figures, while details get more blurred. Different “attack features of the organ stops allow shaping of very diverse rhythmic figures in time and space. Duration: c. 12' Spiral bound, size B4.
