The two organ concertos are marked by somewhat unusual instrumentation. Hector Berlioz warned about a certain antipathy between the organ and orchestral instruments, but with the use of three horns in op. 137 proves to be a fine piece of artistry: Rheinberger supplied tone colors which he had perceived the organ to lack. The trio version of the Suite op. 149 adds to the repertoire of sacred chamber music. Rheinberger's later addition to the work of an ad libitum string orchestra takes this Suite into the world of the triple concerto and the concerto grosso, without exactly corresponding to those genres.

The Requiem of Gabriel Faure is now available in two versions: in the symphonic version which was completed in 1900 and in a version with small orchestra of 1889. The symphonic version of Gabriel Faure's Requiem, published in 1901, was the product of a 13-year compositional process. Starting from the original five-movement form for strings, harp and organ, the composer wrote two additional movements, one after the other, and expanded the instrumentation in various stages for later performances. The present reconstruction of a version with small orchestra differs from other such attempts in that for the first time it presents the work not in a mixed version, but rather in the unified form from 1889. This is distinguished from the final version both in musical terms, as well as through the fact that it forgoes the use of flutes, clarinets and bassoons, while employing only two horns instead of four. With a critical Report with information about the source situation and the edition, and containing the individual readings (alternative readings, etc.). Since in 1889 the Offertoire was still without the choral section the present edition contains the Offertoire of the final version as appendix. Now available in carus music, the choir app. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2731100.

Josef Gabriel Rheinberger dedicated his 9th Organ Sonata (composed in May 1885) to Alexandre Guilmant, the indefatigable concertizing virtuoso who had already given the first Paris performance of Rheinberger's 1st Organ Concerto (in F major, op. 137). With opulent harmonies, conspicuously frequent tempo changes, and chords which are a true delight when played on a Cavaille-Coll organ, the rhapsodic Fantasie at the beginning of the 3rd movement certainly lives up to its name. The separate edition is taken from the Rheinberger Complete Edition.

As well as 20 organ sonatas and seven collections of stand-alone organ pieces with opus numbers, Rheinberger composed a whole range of smaller works for organ methods or organ collections for his favorite instrument, mainly at the request of colleagues and friends. The Prelude in G major by Nikolaus Bruhns arranged by Rheinberger in 1882 specifically “for concert performance†shows Rheinberger as an editor skilled at “recreating†older works. He added individual voices or chords to the original composition, and occasionally restructured the part-writing – an interesting version for performing on a late 19th-century organ.Separate edition from Supplementary Volume 3 of the Rheinberger Complete Edition.

The third Little Organ Book establishes thematic accents (Praise and Thanks - Trust and Prayer). We called upon the leading names of contemporary organ music such as Jurg Baur, Karl Holler, Jean Langlais, Hermann Schroeder and Wolfgang Stockmeier to arrange a selection of well-known hymns from the Catholic and Evangelical hymn books. As in the two volumes (Passion - Easter - Pentecost and Advent - Christmas) the Little Marienstatt Organ Book offers a Chorale prelude as well as a polyphonic organ setting of the respective church hymn, which are almost all firnt publications.Choral preludes and organ settings by various authors.

Anne Fuzeau Classique propose to discover our facsimiles' music in CD. Regis Allard, historical organ of Saint Michel de Bolbec (Calvados). Mass in the 8th tone for organ - Gaspard Corrette. Processional of the Royal Abbey of Chelles - Guillaume Gabriel Nivers. Romano-Monasticum Gradual - Guillaume Gabriel Nivers. Divine Office for use by the Ursuline Ladies of Dijon - Charles Derey. Improvised verses on the organ, Regis Alard. Alternating with Nivers's 'musical plainchant', Corrette's Mass sounds like a homage of the organ to itself, as it gracefully takes on the role of preacher of the Divine Cult. Regis Allard was trained by Andre Isoir and Michel Chapuis (for several years he had private lessons with the latter) as well as at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where he graduated. He devotes himself exclusively to the interpretation of early music and participates in numerous events centred on historic instruments in France, Spain, Holland and northern Germany. He was a prize winner in the International Competition of French Music in Toulouse. His first disk, with pieces by Heinrich Scheidemann on the Arp Schnitger organ in the Stade church in northern Germany, received a Choc from Le Monde de la Musique. His latest recording, J. S. Bach's Art of the Fugue under the Hortus label performed on the new instrument of the church Saint Louis en l'isle in Paris, received critical praise. Ad Limina This group of women cantors, all trained in the Conservatory, themselves music teachers, choir directors, soloists, come from either side of the French-Swiss border, whence the name Ad Limina, which means 'at the border'. This ensemble pursues a novel exploration of the paths of religious music, from the baroque period to our day, with emphasis on Gregorian plainchant and European music from the 19th century to contemporary creation.

With the 2nd Organ Sonata in A flat major of 1871, we encounter a masterpiece which is already fully formed. The first movement, only loosely related to sonata form in the sense of the title Fantasie-Sonate, the atmospheric Adagio espressivo, and the grand finale movement with its fugue and references back to the first movement ensure great success for the grand romantic organ sonata, in spite of its technical demands.

The 6th Organ Sonata, composed in 1880 in E flat minor, was the first of a series of sonatas in Rheinberger's output which are more strongly symphonic. One of the features they display is the expansion of the previous three movements to a four-movement form. The grand introductory movement is followed by an Intermezzo, a gentle programmatic Marcia religiosa, and a highly effective tightly-constructed fugal Finale.

Karl Straube wrote to Rheinberger about his penultimate Organ Sonata, published in 1899: Your 19th Sonata made a tremendous impression on my audience. The first ballade-like movement in particular was greatly admired by the public. In the middle movement, marked Provencalisch, Rheinberger used a theme by Machaut, whilst the third movement, with its somber improvisatory-like introduction, is very convincing.

The Organ Sonata composed in 1891 is distinguished by its richly varied form. The 1st movement is entitled Phantasie and comprises an Andante amabile, followed by an Agitato in free sonata form. In the 2nd movement chorale-style passages alternate with fugal sections, and the 3rd movement begins with a free rhapsodic Introduction, followed by a fugue, archaically entitled Ricercar.
