The northern New Mexico landscape is replete with many churches and chapels which have served for centuries as a cornerstone of faith for the indigenous and colonial peoples. Each region and place of worship has its own colorful history, often the stuff of legend. Three Chapels (for organ manuals) takes its inspiration from the lore and history surrounding some of these holy sites. Chimayó is a place of pilgrimage and healing for the sick; Acoma a place of tension and fusion between two distinct cultural theologies; and Rosario a place of great ceremony for one week of the year Published by: Zimbel Press.

Originally one of three pieces for solo organ (Trois Pièces pour Grand Orgue) Théodore Dubois, the majestic Hosannah has been arranged for organ and two trumpets by composer/arranger Richarl Siegel. The piece contrasts stately, chordal sections with more florid (but never complicated) passages, all being brought to a regal conclusion. The trumpet writing is accessible and capable. High school or other intermediate-level players will be able to perform this piece. Optional parts for timpani and cymbal are included, which will add an extra level of brilliance to this fine transcription. It is suitable for any festive celebration. As a prelude on Palm Sunday, this piece would provide a noble opening to Holy Week. As an Easter Vigil or Easter Sunday postlude, it would be a sonic reminder of Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, leading to his triumphant victory over the tomb. For Organ, Two Trumpets, optional Timpani, and Cymbals.

Harri Viitanen's three passions are the organ, nature and the stars, and he combines the first two of these in Images d'oiseaux. The birdsongs which function as an important element in the work were studied from recordings made in the vicinity of Viitanen's home: they are the nightingale, pied fly-catcher, blackbird and great tit. The work is written for a three or four-manual instrument with the addition of two clicking stones which contribute to the birdsong effects.

Flor Peeters, born in Belgium in 1903, is one of the most important organists and organ composers of the 20th century. After completing his studies at the famous Lemmens Institute in Mechelen, he worked there as a teacher of organ and improvisation before becoming professor at and director of the Royal Flemish Conservatoire of Antwerp. Until his death in 1986, Peeters gave concerts all around the world, held numerous master classes and received several awards and prizes for his achievements as a composer, organist and teacher. In his successful three-volume educational work 'Ars Organi', Peeters combines theoretical knowledge and practical exercises on all aspects of organ playing, starting with basic information on the instrument, manual and pedal exercises, and two-part manual and pedal playing. While Vol. 2 contains exercises on three-part playing, Vol. 3 contains exercises on four and five-part playing as well as studies on demanding trio playing. Each learning stage is accompanied by pedal exercises and tips on articulation, touch, interpretation, registration and organ specifications - a valuable compendium for every organist.

A major addition to the repertoire of transcriptions for organ, the whole suite or any one of the movements will delight performers and audiences alike. Vaughan Williams's original score for military band of 1923 (orchestrated by Gordon Jacob the following year) was a milestone in the introduction of English folk song to the classical repertory which both he and his friend Holst championed. Over its three contrasting movements (two marches separated by an intermezzo) no fewer than nine folk songs are presented, in both lively and emotive style. Greg Morris, organist at London's Temple Church, has deftly arranged the suite, providing generic registration suggestions for a romantic instrument, but in the hands of imaginative players the score will readily transfer to organs of most styles and eras.

STILL. LEBEN Organist Eva Feldbc:ek had been asking me for a long time to write for the organ without the use of iron blocks, extra stopping assistants etc .... unusual difficulties that belonged to my earlier organ music. I setmyselfthe task of Miting a ''handier'' kind of music for the organ. Once I had finished STILL. LEBEN, I didn't think I had achieved what I was looking for. True, the two movements did not involve odd things, but handy isn't really the word for them either. So I wrote the three movements in COUNTERMOVE to tidy up even more. And since I didn't think that was enough either, I wrote the really simple pieces under the title IN TRIPLUM. The three series(eight pieces in all, 2 + 3 + 3) sound very different, but they all take their point of departure from the nature and tonal resources ofthe organ. Everywhere there is polyrhythm or hierarchical layering, polychromaticism, diatonics and melody (the last of these only sparingly and in some of the movements). Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen.

Vintersalme-Musik (1980) - Choral prelude for Organ. Orig. title: Vintersalme.
Programme note: When in 1975 I had finished composing my 3rd Symphony (begun in 1973), I wrote three simple melodies for two psalm texts by Ole Sarvig “The Year” and “Choral Hymn”. One of these was later included in the Danish Hymnbook under the title “Året – Som året går” (The Year). These three “Sarvig tunes” were derived from the same material as the second movement of the symphony and could be harmonized together in several different temporelationships at the same time - like fractals. This inspired me to write several choral and instrumental works in the following decade based on these melodies: for instance “Frost Psalm”, “Winter Cantata”, “Cycles”, “Cantica” and this piece for organ, all coloured by the Nordic and mythic poem by Sarvig, the beginning of which goes: The passing year will pass its deep So shall our mind reach winter´s sleep. And as the tree stands leafles, bare, Is winter´s realms: our minds aware. Per Nørgård

Triptykon / Triptych for Organ solo by Niels Rosing-Schow. Triptych is written for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017, commissioned by The Danish Society of Organists and Cantors. From the preface: The three movements of the work are musical images or situations, with the middle one, Toccata, as its axis. The latter is intended as an image of the dispute between Luther and the ecclesiastical authorities, which is the origin of the Reformation. Two of Luther's Reformation Hymns are more or less palpably present in the music. The other two movements can be regarded as 'before' and 'after'. The first, Exordium, is a 'fluid' situation, but also a preparation, which gradually accumulates a suspense pointing towards the discharge of energy of the Toccata. The third movement, Hymn, represents a serene situation, where a wealth of hymnal fragments grows out of an underlying structure, repeated several times(technically speaking, a passacaglia). There are also elements, however, which are derived from the previous movements. Niels Rosing-Schow (2016).

Johann Michael Haydn's oeuvre includes more than thirty works in Latin or German for two or three descants, composed for his dear choirboys of the Salzburg 'Kapellhaus'. The first setting of the ordinary in this series was the Missa Sancti Aloysii, composed in 1777. It was initially intended for the Commemoration of the Holy Innocents on 28 December, when the chapel boys celebrated their principal feast day. This exceptionally charming mass, characterized by a wonderfully effervescent joyfulness, is an insider's tip for anyone looking for new repertoire for three-part women's, girls' or boys' choir. By virtue of ist scoring, the mass is also eminently suitable for small-scale performances. Score and part available separately - see item CA.5425700.

This edition is the result of Harald Vogel's many years of practice as an organist and musicologist. The music text is based on a reevaluation of 17th- and 18th-century manuscripts containing the free organ and keyboard works by Buxtehude. They originated during a transitional phase between the traditional letter tablature and the staff notation still in use today. Since many works have survived only in transcriptions for staff notation, the editor was confronted with a high error rate, which he carefully analyzes in the Einzelanmerkungen. During the preparation of the edition, the editor always kept sight of the performance practice, but still, the image of the sources is never distorted (e. g. by superfluous rests, beaming not conforming to the sources and the unhistorical adjustment of time signatures) and stays very close to the compositional notation, the letter tablature. The flexible use of three staves and the differentiated distribution of the voices on the staves allow for an approximation in reading conventions of historical notation with its resulting information about hand division. Grouping the free organ repertoire into works with obbligato pedal and works for manuals, this edition is organized in two volumes. The first subvolume (I/1, EB 9304) contains the Preface and the Preludes, whereas the second subvolume (I/2, EB 9305) contains Toccatas, Ostinato works, alternative versions and a comprehensive Critical Commentary (in German only). Volume II (EB 9306) contains Buxtehude's free organ and keyboard works (manualiter) with the corresponding texts (Preface and Critical Commentary).Until 1971, Harald Vogel worked on a dissertation (with Georg von Dadelsen, Hamburg) on Die Fuge um Bach. Besides the description of the inclusion of triple measures into the C notation and the irregularities of the voice mutation in the polyphonic structures, this also included a discussion about the justification of the inner textual criticism. With the inner textual criticism, deviations in parallel passages are unified. The North German fugue style, reaching a peak in Buxtehude's work, is characterized by a constant diversity of details in subject and polyphonic progressions. One of the indicators of the fantastic style is the dissolution of the polyphonic structures at the ends of the fugues, evident in Buxtehude's work.In this edition, a musical text is presented that avoids the uniformity of detail not conforming to the sources. However, there are many examples of transcription and cursory errors, which are analyzed in a methodical systematic manner. About the editor: As an organist, professor, organ expert, and scholar, Harald Vogel has rendered outstanding services to the interpretation of early music and especially to historical performance practice concerning the organ for decades. He has received numerous awards, including an ECHO Klassik as Instrumentalist of the Year (2012), honorary doctorates from Lulea University of Technology (Sweden, 2008) and Oberlin College (USA, 2014), as well as the Buxtehude Prize of the City of Lubeck (2018).
