The Arhus Etuder (Etudes for snare drums) are written for percussion ensembles ranging from 3 to 6 musicians. Etude No.9 however is a solo for snare drum. Bent Lylloff has based these Etudes on the experience he has gained from playing orchestral and chamber music and from teaching. Again and again the problems which the percussionist meet with in his daily work are put forward in the Etudes; problems such as the balance of the instruments the change of tempo the change of sticks and mallets shadings and the change to other instruments.

Il est possible d'adopter un costume ou un maquillage différents pour chaque groupe. Au milieu se tiendra le chef d'orchestre, dos au public, comme un arbitre et un officiant. Les mouvements s'enchaînent sans interruption. Tous les sons émis seront 'pleins' et homogènes. Ainsi l'on doit se préparer individuellement et collectivement pour développer cette qualité sonore. Il n'y a pas de chant dans cette ?uvre. Les notes dans les portées décrivent les intonations relatives d'un langage parlé, ou bien les différents modes de jeux vocaux, percussifs ou gestuels. Les silences seront habités par une attitude concentrée, attentive. Comme si, par moments, la Lune parlait. Dans le mouvement Toucher, chaque éxécutant frappe sur son propre corps, aux endroits indiqués sur la partition. Dans Goûter, les musiciens privilégient les bruits de bouche, de langue, de déglutition. Les onomatopées du texte doivent être interprètées dans ce sens. Regarder est en grande partie silencieux, les musiciens se comportent individuellement comme des mimes ou des acteurs de cinéma muet, en exagérant les gestes et attitudes. Dans Humer, les musiciens privilégient les bruits de respiration, souffles et sonorités aériennes. Les onomatopées du texte doivent être interprètées dans ce sens. Dans Écouter, les musiciens adopteront individuellement un jeu de scène montrant au public une inquiétude et une tension d'écoute vers les cintres, en direction de la Lune, écoutant et regardant sans cesse vers le haut de la scène.
