Mein Zugang war ein „spielerischer“: ich spielte mehrmals am Tag Mozarts Sonatensatz am Klavier und beobachtete, welche Elemente und Tonfolgen im Gedächtnis haften blieben. Diesen inneren und sehr persönlichen Ausschwingvorgang (Decay) Mozart’scher Musik, der sich wie von selbst einstellt, wenn man die Musik – und zwar immer nur Phrasen davon, niemals ganze Werke – nicht mehr aus dem Kopf bringt, habe ich als Anstoß zur Komposition genommen. Und so wie sich im Laufe von Tagen ein „Nachklang“ ergeben hat, hat sich auch ein „Einschwingvorgang“ (Attack) herausgebildet. Beide Stück sind daher attacca mit Mozarts Sonatensatz verbunden und beziehen ihre Gestalt sehr direkt aus demkompositorischen Originalmaterial, ohne jedoch ins hörbar „zitathafte“ abzugleiten. Until now the edition The Music Books of Mozart and His Sister has only been available as part of the boxed set of Mozart’s oeuvre for piano (BA 5749) which has gone out of print. Now for the first time it can be purchased separately. Based on the New Mozart Edition this is the only publication to contain all the pieces sketches and fragments found in the notebooks. Composed just three years before Mozart's premature death theSonata in C K.545 has become perhaps his most widely known composition for piano. The piece was probably written for one of Mozart's pupils though it was not published during his lifetime. It has since come to symbolise in miniature the dominant elements of the Mozart style: clarity melodic charm and exquisite balance. These characteristics epitomise the music of the Viennese classical period of the late 18th century.The three-movement work opens with an elegant Allegro followed by a tuneful Andante and concludes with a light-hearted Rondo finale.This version ofMozart's popular work has been edited by Randall Faber.

Research has shown that many printed editions from the 18th Century provide more reliable guidance as to the composer’s intentions than Mozart’s own autograph manuscript; the composer himself prepared many of his works for printing marking them with precise performance instructions for dynamics and articulation. He devoted particular care to the slow movements which are often richly ornamented in the printed editions.This knowledge together with regained access to source materials in the libraries of Eastern Europe gives us sufficient grounds to publish a new Wiener Urtext edition of Mozart’s Sonatas. Advice on performance from the renownedMozart connoisseur Robert D. Levin provides fresh stimulus for revising rather tired standard interpretations of Mozart.

The final movement of the Sonata in A major KV 331 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart the Rondo Alla Turca is one of the most famous piano pieces of all time. Once only familiar to musical experts later a universal piece for all piano pupils its opening melody is now even omnipresent as an alienated sinus tone-like mobile phone ring tone. Fazıl Say's arrangement originally created as an effective encore follows on from this popularity. After the first eight bars have been presented in original form typical elements of jazz superimposed on the still recognisable classical foundations can be discovered such as syncopation of the top notes andornamentation through chromatic blue notes embedded in the at times frenzied chains of semiquavers. In the spirit of the work's improvisatory character Say likes to perfom his Alla Turca Jazz in different combinations for example accompanied by jazz singers of with orchestra. It may appear strange that Fazıl Say who was born in Turkey and - when not on tour - is still resident in that country does not bring back Mozart's interpretation of genuine Turkish music closer to its own roots particularly as many of his compositions such as Black Earth or the Violin Sonata are characterised by a subtle amalgamation of the Classical-Romantic tradition Turkish folk music and elements of jazz. In a further Mozart arrangement the ballet music Patara premiered in Vienna in 2006 composed on the basis of the Rococo-like theme from the first movement of the same A-major Sonata (wich enjoys almost as great popularity as the Alla Turca theme) Say utilised the connection which was absent in Alla Turca albeit in the opposite direction. In the ballet music the piano symbolises Western culture and the Ney flute Oriental culture communcated atmosperically by austere percussion instrumentation and soprano vocalisation.

Edition without Fingering-Published in a two-volume edition (HN1 and HN2) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 18 Piano Sonatas were the very first pieces in the Henle catalogue. These popular sonatas remain part of the core repertory of everypianist. In the intervening decades since the release of the original Urtext edition both volumes have been revised several times in order to keep pace with the current state of research. The latest update concerning K.331 the “Alla turca” sonata from volume 2 dates from 2015. The editor’s preface and critical report provide detailed information on all the sources and textual issues. HN1 and HN2 include fingerings; here Henlepresents both volumes without fingerings for pianists who want to find their own way into Mozart’s Piano universe.

Masterpiece Edition-The Sonata in C Major (No. 16) is one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's most popular Piano Sonatas. The Sonata in C Major was actually first published in 1805 some years after his death. This seemingly simple theme is actually one of Mozart's most mature works. In 1759 Leopold Mozart compiled a notebook as a present for his daughter Maria Anna (usually called ‘Nannerl’) it was intended as a series of instructive exercises and practice pieces. The notebook though wasn't used solely by Nannerl but also by her younger brother Wolfgang and the talented boy didn't just use it for Piano practice but soon started to compose his own little pieces. Either Wolfgang himself or his father wrote them into the remaining empty pages of the notebook. This new edition contains only compositions by Leopold and Wolfgang Mozart. It is a companion volume to ‘The Young Mozart’ by H. Schüngeler which contains thefirst and easiest compositions by Wolfgang (ED 9008).
