Maurice Ravel's Gaspard De La Nuit is one of the most important Piano works of the 20th century and constitutes the height of the extension of the pianistic playing techniques and tonal possibilites which was already begun by Chopin and Liszt in the 19th century. The three movements Ondine Le Gibet and Scarbo are based on poems by Aloysius Bertrand which Ravel put in front of each of the three pieces. Thus too the work is in a tradition represented by composers such as Schumann and Liszt in the 19th century that combines instrumental music with literary models. For the new edition published by the Wiener Urtext Edition the editorsconsulted not only the first edition used almost exclusively up to now but also Ravel's autograph as well as his personal copy of the first edition on the basis of which numerous passages in the musical text could be corrected and brought closer to Ravel's original intention. In addition the editors included corrections from personal copies of various students of Ravel. Entries of the composer going well beyond mere text corrections and practical performance tips handed down by his students are analysed in the Notes of Interpretation. The reader-friendly large-format Wiener Urtext edition is completed by a trilingual glossary of the French performance instructions used by Ravel as well as English and German translations of Bertrand's three poems.

FREDERIC) Piano solo [Sheet music] Peters
Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. The Complete Chopin ? A New Critical Edition from Edition P...(+)
Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. The Complete Chopin ? A New Critical Edition from Edition Peters is firmly established as the most important ongoing scholarly edition of Chopin\'s music and is a must for any discerning pianist. The world?s foremost Chopin editors, under Editor-in-chief John Rink, bring their unrivalled collective knowledge to imbue the project with unique authority, drawing upon the latest international scholarship. The Complete Chopin prioritizes the needs of the practical pianist and provides a beautifully presented performing text of each work based on a single principal source together with important variants, along with thorough critical commentaries and illuminating prefatory essays in English, French and German. Chopin\'s early Nocturne in E-flat major is one of his most popular works. First published in 1832, it has a charming, vocally-inspired melody in the treble with a serenade-like accompaniment in the left hand. Edited by leading Chopin scholar, Christophe Grabowksi, this volume presents two versions of the Nocturne: one based on the most definitive impression of the French first edition released during Chopin?s lifetime, the second a pioneering compilation of all the variants to have flowed from Chopin?s pen after the work was first completed. This second text allows pianists to create their own versions of the Nocturne by combining variants as they wish, thereby drawing inspiration directly from Chopin\'s boundless imagination. Edited by leading Chopin scholar, Christophe Grabowksi, as part of the Edition Peters series The Complete Chopin (series editors: John Rink, Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger, Jim Samson, Christophe Grabowski). Ground-breaking format, presenting both an Urtext reading and a version with all variants attributable to Chopin, allowing pianists to create their own version. / Date parution : 2022-07-28/ Répertoire / Piano

Beethoven wrote 32 sonatas for piano. Volume 1, edited by Stewart Gordon, includes the first 8 sonatas (Op. 2, Nos. 1-3; Op. 7; Op. 10, Nos. 1-3; and Op. 13 [Pathtique]), written between 1795 and 1799. Since these autographs no longer exist, this edition is based on the first editions, published by various Viennese engravers. Dr. Gordon discusses a variety of topics including Beethoven's life; the pianos of his time and their limitations; Beethoven's use of articulation, ornamentation, tempo; and the age-old challenge of attempting to determine the definitive interpretation of Beethoven's music. Valuable performance recommendations, helpful fingering suggestions and ornament realizations are offered in this comprehensive critical body of Beethoven's sonatas. Where performance options are open to interpretation, other editors' conclusions are noted, enabling students and teachers to make informed performance decisions.

FINER IN MINOR. Par . With beautiful, easy to moderately difficult, familiar and above all not so familiar pieces, our bestseller Finer in Minor has now been a companion for many generations on their way to the wonderful works of major piano literature. In the meantime, the sister edition Greater in Major (EB 8936) expands the sound palette, showing that playing the piano in a major key is, of course, just as beautiful as playing in a minor key!
In the course of preparing it, the desire for freshness and renewal of the well-established minor-key edition developed. Editors and publishing house finally gave in and decided on a revised and expanded new edition. The outer appearance has been adapted to its major-key twin, and inside the edition, things look new and different, too. New composers and even more pieces expand the range of minor-key music to include new worlds of sound and feeling. / Date parution : 2022-02-15/ Recueil / Piano

Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. The Complete Chopin ? A New Critical Edition from Edition Peters is firmly established as the most important ongoing scholarly edition of Chopin?s music and is a must for any discerning pianist. Chopin?s etudes occupy a central position in piano literature. Prized by generations of the greatest pianists as the supreme examples in the genre, their reputation rests on their not only challenging specific aspects of a pianist?s technique, but also for being great music, transcending the genre of mere ?study?. In this edition of opus 10 (the earlier of Chopin?s two sets of studies, ending with the famous \'Revolutionary\' etude), pianist and musicologist Roy Howat presents a new edition which addresses many of the misunderstandings created by a very poorly engraved first French edition (containing errors which were then carried over to the German and English editions) ? an edition which nevertheless included many important revisions made at proof stage. Using this first French edition as a primary source, Howat produces an Urtext edition which, while recording noteworthy variants from a variety of sources, is not a ?conflated? version, but a coherent performing edition in its own right, ideal for all who aspire to play these cornerstones of piano repertoire in an informed way. / Date parution : 2022-09-07/ Recueil / Piano

Easier Piano Pieces 79-Friedrich Kuhlau's piano sonatinas originally intended for his pupils have remained popular for more than 150 years. They have often suffered from the attention of over-zealous editors who have indulged their own ideas about dynamics and even about notes. This edition of Op.88 has been carefully based on the original 1827 publication in Copenhagen the only differencs being the addition of phrasing (which was almost entirely lacking) metronome marks and the revision of fingering.

In the summer of 1894 Anton n Dvo ák interrupted his stay in America in order to spend his holidays back in his homeland of Bohemia. During those happy weeks he wrote his eight Humoresques for piano. But this music is not by nomeans as ?Bohemian? as one might suppose. We know that Dvo ák had already sketched some of the material for these pieces in New York and there are also indications that the composer initially considered writing a series ofScottish dances. In other words these are thoroughly international pieces with an inflexion all of their own. And they are of a medium level of difficulty enabling pianists of all ages to discover a lot more than just thefamous catchy tune of no. 7. This Henle Urtext edition is based on the first print which the editors have carefully checked against the autograph.

Restored to Gershwin's Original Manuscript-Rhapsody in Blue has here been restored to its original manuscript by Alicia Zizzo. Few composers have written material that has been more improvised upon imitated fragmented and generally misinterpreted than George Gershwin's. Gershwin's lack of participation in the original publication of Rhapsody in Blue led to an unanticipated altered composition that was shrouded in unanswered questions for more than half a century. The editors at Harms determined to edit the piece according to their view on how the piece should be performed. It was deemed too long among other factors. Zizzo has reinserted the deleted passages and after extensive research has reinstored thispieces authenticity. The book included the appendum to the 2 piano/ 4 hands edition.

Funeral March-Beethoven?s four-movement Sonata in A-flat major Op.26 belongs to ...(+)
Funeral March-Beethoven?s four-movement Sonata in A-flat major Op.26 belongs to his most popular works. It is dedicated to Prince Lichnowsky one of his most generous patrons and the dedicatee of for example the Grande Sonate pathétique Op.13 and Symphony No.2 Op.35.The work?s initial drafts date from 1800 01; it was first published in March 1802.This demanding sonata is highly varied in its form: it begins with a set of variations and contains the famous Marcia funebre sulla morte d?un Eroe as its third movement earning it the nickname ?Sonata with the Funeral March?. The identity of the title?s eroe (hero) remains unknown to the present day. The march was performed atBeethoven?s funeral on 29 March 1827 in an arrangement for orchestra. For this Bärenreiter edition Jonathan Del Mar possibly as one of the first editors of a modern edition consulted the composer?s autograph in the original. This enabled him to decipher details of Beethoven?s handwriting in particular with regard to the exact notation of doubtful slurs. The result is a most reliable and thoroughly-researched musical text. Differing readings and editorial decisions are documented in the Critical Commentary. The edition has been finely engraved and includes practical page turns. Information on central issues of historical performance practice (pedalling ornaments tempo dynamics articulation) is provided in a detailed chapter.Scholarly-critical Urtext edition based on most recent Beethoven researchEvaluation of Beethoven?s autograph in the originalElegant engraving with practical page turnsInformative Introduction (Eng / Ger)Discussion of central performance practice issues (Eng / Ger)Detailed Critical Commentary (Eng)

This edition complements the volume of Keyboard Works of Doubtful Authenticity (BA 5250).It contains works which have survived bearing Johann Sebastian Bach?s name or were later attributed to Bach but where Bach has been ruled out as composer in the opinion of the editors on stylistic grounds or following a critical examination of the sources.
