Mozart's Finale from Sonata No. 11, KV 331, also known as Rondo alla Turca, is one of his most recognized works. This tuneful, lively work was composed in the late 1770s, and since then has been transcribed for many ensembles. Two objectives were in mind while transcribing the Rondo alla Turca. One was to produce a relatively clean manuscript with a minimum of articulation and dynamic markings so as to allow interpretation by the performers. Such markings found here are provided only as suggestions. Secondly, rather than featuring just the solo soprano saxophone, the melodies were given to other parts as well.

Two objectives were in mind while transcribing the Finale. One was to produce a relatively clean manuscript with a minimum of articulation and dynamic markings so as to allow interpretation by the performers. The articulation markings placed at the beginning of the work are provided only as suggestions. Secondly, the melodies were divided among all parts, rather than a solo featuring just the soprano saxophone. The Finale, a molto allegro in rondo form, should sparkle with cheerful charm and wit. Saxophonists should strive for the lightness and grace so prevalent in much of Mozart's timeless music.

After the introduction of the theme by the soloist, the supporting voices join in taking an active part and converting the oboe's soliloqui into a dialogue. An expressive, marvelous theme dominates the second movement, the suspense of which does not ease until the composition proceeds to the concluding rondeau. Arranged for saxophone quartet (SATBar).

This beautiful addition to the saxophone quartet repertoire is taken from Johann Christian Bach's set of Six Quartettos for a German flute, violin, tenor, and violincello. J.C. Bach was the youngest of Johann Sebastian's sons and is noted for influencing the concerto style of Mozart.

Three works with quotations from well-known composers are contained in this tongue-in-cheek collection. Otto M. Schwarz has produced an outstanding recording of these works with members of the Slovak Philharmonic, which is available on all streaming and download platforms. 1. THE AMADEUS WATCH: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's own watch - if he had one - ticks away. The ticking carries us back in time with a piece that stylistically imitates the music of the 18th century in melody, harmony and rhythm. 2. COMPOSERS DINNER IN HEAVEN: At the music publisher De Haske, a composers' dinner was an integral part of trade fairs or meetings. The dinner was very popular among anyone who sat at it, not least of all because it offered one the opportunity to chat informally. Based on such a meeting, Otto M. Schwarz has composed a work that describes an imaginary dinner of great classical masters on a cloud in the sky. Guess which composers are present by the references in the form of musical quotations and stylistic devices! 3. SCHERZO FOR WOOD QUARTET: The work, in 12/8 time, moves in a rapid furioso. Underscored by a continuous eighth note rhythm, the work creates in the listener the sensation of a frantic rollercoaster ride. The theme moves throughout all the parts, and following a chromatically moving chord sequence, ends in a dramatic crescendo.
