Solo voices, SATB chorus, orchestra (Soprano solo, Alto solo, Tenor solo, Bass solo, Mixed choir (SATB), Orchestra) SKU: BA.BA09038 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Edited by Barry Cooper. This edition: urtext edition. Paperback. Barenreiter Urtext. Score. Opus 123. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA09038_00. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA09038). ISBN 9790006563838. 31 x 24.3 cm inches. Text Language: Latin. Preface: Barry Cooper. Beethoven described his grandly conceived â??Missa solemnisâ? as â??my greatest workâ? and sold manuscript copies to some of the subscribers even before it had appeared in print.
This Urtext edition takes into account all the sources including the old and the new complete editions whose relationship is clearly explained in a stemma. In several passages the renowned Beethoven specialist Barry Cooper has arrived at variant readings, such as in the â??Sanctusâ?, where the choir enters instead of the soloists, rather than coming in at â??Pleni sunt coeliâ?. No less worthy of mention is the addition of the soloists to the choir in most of the â??Credoâ?. These matters and many other editorial decisions are documented in the detailed Critical Commentary (Eng).
The appendix contains Beethovenâ??s arrangement of the Gregorian chant â??Tantum ergoâ? for the first time. This was composed at the same time as the â??Missa solemnisâ? and most probably stands in a close relation to it.
This edition is designed for everyone seeking a combination of a reliable musical text and well-founded editorial suggestions for a successful performance of this masterpiece.

Soli STB, SATB Choir, 2 Ob, Cor, Org obl, 2 Vl, Va, Bc - Level 3 SKU: CA.3107349 Cantata for the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Reinhold Kubik. Arranged by Paul Horn. Organ. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Epiphany. Single Part, Organ. Composed 1724. BWV 73. 16 pages. Duration 17 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.073/49. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3107349). Key: G minor / c minor. Language: German/English. In 1724, Bach composed the cantata Herr, wie du willt, so schicks mit mir [Lord, as you will, do unto me] BWV 73 for the third Epiphany Sunday. Like in some other cantatas from the first annual cycle, the opening movement contains a part for corno which would in fact have been unplayable on an instrument of that era - probably also a reason why Bach allocated this part to the organ in a repeat performance (both variants can be performed using the Carus edition). The unusual choral movement, interrupted by recitatives, is based quite substantially on a short four-note motive which is introduced by the horn; at the end of the chorus, the choir sings it to the words Herr, wie du willt [Lord, as you will] - an avowal which also quite substantially characterizes other movements of the cantata. Orchestra Soli STB, Coro SATB, 3 Ob, Fg, 2 Vl, Va, Bc SKU: CA.3119407 Cantata for Trinity Sunday. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Tobias Rimek. Arranged by Angelika Tasler. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Trinity. Study score. Composed 1724. BWV 194. 80 pages. Duration 39 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.194/07. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3119407). ISBN 9790007245146. Language: German/English. The cantata Hochsterwunschtes Freudenfest BWV 194 was composed for an organ dedication on 2 November 1723 in Stormthal, Saxony. A year later, and with just a few alterations, the cantata was performed again in Leipzig on Trinity Sunday. Our edition takes this Leipzig version of 1724 as its source. The special occasion of its composition is reflected in the extent of the composition which has twelve, instead of the usual six, movements. The orchestral scoring is for strings and three obbligato oboes. A special feature of the cantata is its structure as an orchestral suite. The beginning is a spirited opening chorus in the style of a French overture. The bass aria in the third movement has the character of a pastorale, and the following aria (movement 5) in turn has the character of a gavotte, etc. A simple four-part chorale concludes this multifaceted composition, marked by some extremely heartfelt moments. SAB vocal soli, SATB choir, 3 trumpets, timpani, 2 oboes/oboe d'amore, bassoon, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.3119763 Cantata for a wedding. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Uwe Wolf. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Violin 3. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas. Single Part, Violin 3. BWV 197. 8 pages. Duration 20 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.197/63. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3119763). ISBN 9790007210540. Text language: German/English. Gott ist unsre Zuversicht BWV 197 was probably written in the second half of the 1730s for a wedding, no further details of which are known. In the opening chorus in particular, it features quite a sizeable orchestra. The text of the cantata has one major theme - trust in God! In a magnificent lullaby (movement 3) all cares are sung to sleep. The other arias, with their exceptionally exquisite combinations of scorings, make the cantata into a quite special work, albeit one which is associated with a particular occasion. The wedding cantata BWV 197 draws on older material for some of its movements. Two movements are parodies on arias from the incomplete surviving Christmas cantata Ehre sei Gott in der Hohe, BWV 197a, including the lullaby O du angenehmes Paar, of which only the last quarter survives from the Christmas cantata - it is O du angenehmer Schatz there. By using the later version, Diethard Hellmann has been able to reconstruct the original version of this dreamlike beautiful movement; however, the complete Christmas cantata cannot be reconstructed from the sources. The CANTATA No. 4: CHRIST LAG IN TODES BANDEN, BWV 4, is one of the earliest church cantatas by J.S. Bach (1685-1750). Bach wrote it for an application to a job opportunity at a Lutheran church in Mulhausen. It is the first of his cantatas to construct its textual and melodic material on a chorale. His first cantata for Easter Sunday, it was later revised in Leipzig in 1724 and 1725 with additional instrumental parts in order to harness the rich musical resources available to the composer. HWV 279. Duration 17 minutes. Carus Verlag #5527900. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5527919). ISBN 9790007293062. German/English. Handel's Utrecht Jubilate HWV 279 enthralled London audiences right from its first performance, and it continues to do so today in concert halls and churches all over the world, thanks to the wide range of occasions when it can be performed. It was performed for the first time in a festive service on 7 July 1713 at St. Paul's Cathedral to celebrate the Peace marking the end of the twelve year-long War of the Spanish Succession. The Utrecht Te Deum and Jubilate were Handel's first sacred works in English and important milestones at the beginning of his London career. The edition is based on Handel's autograph (which unfortunately does not survive) and on a copy from Handel's circle, which in some respects provides more information than the autograph and contains important details for this edition. In 1717 Handel revised the Jubilate in a smaller scoring for the ensemble at Cannons (HWV 246) and preceded it with a two-part Sinfonia which is also reproduced in the Appendix to this edition. The chorus is mainly scored in four parts, and is in eight parts in just one short movement. In two other movements the soprano part divides. The second alto solo part can also be sung by a high tenor. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.5527900. $190.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks | | |
